I think the person I talked to was basically telling me to bid with a huge amount of caution. I got the impression she was telling that to everyone: bid on firms with medians well below your actual GPA. She said that bidding only on firms with a 3.5 median would be far to aggressive as a transfer, and that to be safe, I should pepper the 3.3-3.5 range. ITE, I think that's pretty good advice. Transfers aside, the actual GULC people are getting slammed too.

i hit the 3.3-3.5 region pretty hard, with a few dips into the 3.0ish region with some higherish (15-25) bids. i bid very heavily in NY, pretty substantially in DC (although not as heavy as NY... but i do prefer DC), and then peppered some secondary markets where i have strong ties.

This was my basic approach as well. I bid a little heavier on DC than NYC and then hit Atlanta pretty hard as well (family reasons). What is your guess for # of interviews we'll get through the lotto system?

Although I like the idea behind the system, I sort of wish there was a bit of a filtering system. I just think it could be pretty unpleasant and a waste of time to sit through interviews where they have 0 interest in a transfer student.

Why so few interviews? Other (T14) schools said more like between 15-25.

Because gulc = t14 and not t10 or t6. Massive class size, horrible economy, low t14 rank = not that many interview slots.

On a different note - I am not sure if I recall correctly, but did someone mention here that they were able to get part of their $1200 seat deposit back? Is this possible?

Just wondering after reading on the Employment thread about proving to a firm that you have connections to the city: I want to go to Georgetown/DC because that's where a lot of the IP stuff is with the federal circuit and all and I am also interested in government/policy work. But I have never lived there, or gone to school there, no family, etc. (I'm more connected to the East Coast as a whole) Is it completely unrealistic to go to GULC and apply to/work for DC firms through OCI then?*

*still on the waitlist, but this is hypothetical and could determine if I stay on the waitlist.

Yea, thats my understanding. Check the employment forum - GULC has an absurdly low number of interview slots for a school of its size.

This is also what I did, fwiw.

My status changed to under review 7/28. I applied part-time and was originally under review on 7/15.

This... is kind of what I did. In reality I just found a list of the top 20 appellate firms and bid on their D.C. offices in some random order. Luckily their medians were largely in the 3.4s. Not so luckily, they were all 480 bids for 20-40 spots firms.

It's really hard to say. If you had applied to FT/PT and your status checker had just changed to PT, I would be inclined to say you were admitted to the PT. However, since that's not the situation, it's just really hard to say.

Awesome. What a gratifying result after such a long wait. Congratulations. BTW, Don't treat Maryland students as outcasts if you see them riding through DC.
