So the hard deadlines for some schools are like June 15th and not all my grades have been posted. Is it still possible to submit a letter of good standing after the deadline as long as your app is in through LSAC?

That's a situation where you'll want to be in contact with the admissions departments directly.Bilka wrote:So the hard deadlines for some schools are like June 15th and not all my grades have been posted. Got it, thank you.Joscellin wrote:That's a situation where you'll want to be in contact with the admissions departments directly.Bilka wrote:So the hard deadlines for some schools are like June 15th and not all my grades have been posted. Do you know if this is a normal occurrence for transfer students?

Either way: Call them and ask (sooner rather than later).

Pretty sure you just need to have the core of the app submitted, like payment, personal statement, resume, etc. Grades/dean's certs can trickle in laterJoscellin wrote:I'm in the same process you areBilka wrote:Got it, thank you.Joscellin wrote:That's a situation where you'll want to be in contact with the admissions departments directly.Bilka wrote:So the hard deadlines for some schools are like June 15th and not all my grades have been posted. Do you know if this is a normal occurrence for transfer students?I can't imagine that schools would ding you simply because your current school's grades were moving slowly, so long as they know ahead of time. My guess is that they'll tell you to submit an unofficial of what you have so far, and keep them up to date.

That was my plan; I'm still waiting on two grades. Thought it was better to wait than to bombard admin with multiple iterations of an incomplete transcript.clshopeful wrote:Pretty sure you just need to have the core of the app submitted, like payment, personal statement, resume, etc. Absolutely agree with this. I should have clarified my earlier statement to only suggest sending a partial transcript if you're up against the deadline and waiting on, say, 1 or 2 last ones.tebowtime23 wrote: That was my plan; I'm still waiting on two grades. Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
Updating stats now that grades and ranks are in. Ended the 1L year with a 3.89 GPA and ranked 7/175 (top 4%) at an east coast T2 school ranked in the low-mid 50's.
Still targeting California for geographical preference as we own a house in SoCal. Goal is UCLA, but I'm starting to consider throwing in some last minute apps at Berkeley/Stanford, though I'm not sure if I have a realistic shot at those schools so I'm hesitant to spend the money applying.

Seems like Berkeley should be worth the app fee, though I'm not familiar with their 509.rysiir wrote:Updating stats now that grades and ranks are in. Ended the 1L year with a 3.89 GPA and ranked 7/175 (top 4%) at an east coast T2 school ranked in the low-mid 50's.

Apply to both. I think you'll get into Cal. It's not a lock but you have a very realistic shot. Stanford is tougher. They tend to value California ties and are pretty picky about what schools they accept transfers from. I had slightly better stats from a slightly higher ranked school last year on the East Coast and got rejected by Stanford. But it's worth an application. You might end up having an easier cycle or have something in your application materials that appeals to them and you could get in. You're not definitively out. I'd just call it a bit of a longshot for Stanford. You owning a house in California might be a good selling point for ties and that could make a difference.rysiir wrote:Updating stats now that grades and ranks are in. That's because 10 of their 16 transfers came from t14 schools.NoDayButToday wrote:And Stanford IMO. Thanks for the reply. I'm also currently interning for a trial court judge here in California. I guess I'll highlight that as well for the ties to CA piece.lawman84 wrote: Apply to both. Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
Since I didn't do H/S write-on, are there any other special things like latin honors or whatever that I can gun for to jerk myself off about in a judicial clerkship application? Maybe 1-2 years out of law school after I gun through 3-LOL? If transfers are disqualified and your resume will always just look like:
Education
Harvard Law School - JD
BLANK
Everything else
Are secondary journals worth the time for clerkship purposes?

dumb LSAC question: if you submit apps before LSAC has received a letter of recommendation, does the law school automatically get the letter when it is received?

Yes. LSAC will send an updated report including the letter(s).dabigchina wrote:dumb LSAC question: if you submit apps before LSAC has received a letter of recommendation, does the law school automatically get the letter when it is received?

Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
I was wondering if anyone knows how cognizant schools are of low curves at TTTT schools that don't release rankings until later in the summer. For instance, the top 5% for last year's class at my school was at 3.43. Will admission offices look at the numbers from previous years at individual schools to try to gauge where an applicant will be ranked?
On such a harsh curve, it's pretty much impossible to compete with the raw GPA's of students coming from schools where the class average is a 3.30 or so.

Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
I've already submitted apps and just waiting on one more LOR. In the meantime I've obtained a law clerk position for the summer. Do you guys recommend that I email each school and submit a new resume to reflect the new job (I have no legal professional experience on my resume)? I'm sure it's a plus, but will it make such a difference that I should bother admissions? I've already been in touch with admissions when I sent unofficial transcripts. Just don't want to irritate them

There was some discussion of Stanford w/r/t Dean's certifications earlier. I remember checking and not seeing any requirement, but the transfer web page now lists Dean's Certs at #10 of required paperwork.

Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
So I submitted a lot of my apps way before 2nd semester grades. Thus, I listed my "law school GPA" as my 1st semester GPA. Now that I have my second semester grades back, and a new overall GPA (which is lower), do you guys think I should update the schools? e.g., send an email telling them I listed my GPA off my 1st semester, and now my current GPA is ___. Or will they just disregard my listed GPA once they get my transcripts?

Okay target school apps are in - I was thinking of throwing one at NYU.
That 1-page PS seems kind of prohibitive tho - does anyone know if single-spaced is allowed? (doesn't say on website or app)

Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
I combed through the website looking for the answer to that question. I wound up shaving off a ton of room by reducing spacing, but not all the way to single.Bilka wrote:Okay target school apps are in - I was thinking of throwing one at NYU.
