Now that it is 4PM, my endless email checking begins to find out if CLS sends out a round today. Like yesterday, something tells me they won't end our suffering just yet for the 7/20 complete kids.

Submitted 6/29. Found out they didn't have UG Dean's cert on 7/18, had them mail it out again last week (to CLS and NYU). Called NYU on Monday, who said they had it, but haven't heard anything from Columbia.kaiser wrote:Didn't exactly happen fast. When did you submit your stuff? Yeah, I wonder if these schools have dark rooms full of lost and lonely supplemental documents. Apparently they lose half the things we sent themmebeSajid wrote:Submitted 6/29. And so the hour comes and goes with nothing yet again... Perhaps by the end of the week?

I heard this too...Aug 1 is deposit deadline though for the first batch of admits so there might be 1 or 2 more offers after then? They also said they COULD make offers in August.Transferthrowaway wrote:SLS said they hope to be finished by Friday.

Re: T14 Transfer Status Change Thread
In at NYU. Don't yet know about Columbia.
Does anyone have the most up-to-date insider scoop on comparing the two schools in terms of transfering this year?
Here's what I think that I know:
Columbia:
~Total 2L class size approx. 430 (including roughly 50-60 transfers)
~Can't compete for LR anymore.
~Slightly more national name recognition
~(Slightly) cheaper cost of living, but less desirable area of the city
~EIP starts Aug. 11
NYU:
~Total 2L class size approx. 480 (including roughly 40-50 transfers)
~CAN compete for LR, but only for one or two spots (bad odds)
~(Slightly?) better LRAP
~EIP starts Aug. 17
(feel free to correct)
Questions I still have:
1. For both schools: when are bids due?
(Is it true transfers can't bid on lottery slots for Columbia's EIP past Aug 1st? According to posts and the website, you have to accept within 1 week prior to the program, ~Aug. 4, but does one miss lottery spots?)
2. For both schools: how many bids?
3. Anyone have transfer success statistics from either school's career services office?
4. Any other important comparison metrics given how close we are on pulling the trigger?
EDIT: new Q: how do the grading curves compare? Grades become "advisory" at NYU for upper level courses. What about for Columbia?
Thanks!!

Re: T14 Transfer Status Change Thread
With NYU, housing doesn't have to be more expensive. You have the easy option of living in Brooklyn or Jersey City, and taking a quick 15-20 min ride right to campus. Best part is, it costs less than half of what NYU charges for housing (could be a third depending on what options you choose). Plus food and everything else is cheaper once you leave Manhattan.TransferRisk wrote:In at NYU. Don't yet know about Columbia.

I know that NYU gives you 50 bids, though 10 must be for non-NY offices. All transfers will have a full chance to participate in EIW. I don't have any hard stats, but I spoke to a transfer from last year who told me all but a few transfers had great biglaw or PI jobs lined up, and said that their success rate and interview rate was likely even higher than that of the continuing NYU students.
I can't imagine Columbia completely foreclosing the last round of accepted students from participating in EIW (though both Cornell and Stanford have the nerve to do it with their transfers). If that is the case, it will obviously be pretty easy to toss it into the trash and pick NYU.
