Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
It makes sense to release the some decisions on a Friday afternoon. If they can ship them out and then close the office for the weekend, rejected applicants would not have the ability to call and complain.
Also, if I was a member of the admissions department, I would like to feel that I completed something before going home for the weekend, rather than leaving the "project" for the next week.
EDIT: Now onto page 6. Let the decisions rain down upon us

I think Stanford is just waiting for the hype to build as quantified by the length of the thread. We probably gotta get this bad boy to 7 or 8 pages at least before they'll start releasing decisions.
IDK if stillwatergate was a flame or not, but I like to imagine the phone operator at SLS following this thread and basking in our collective anxiety.

Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
I just called them to ask when they will be releasing their decisions and they said:
"We hope to start letting people know by the end of the month but it could be into the beginning of August."
Sit back and 'relax' guys, it looks like its going to be a long ride.

Does anyone know Stanford's OCI/law review tryout schedule then? Beginning of August basically bleeds into OCI for some schools, how will there be time to do everything...

Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
I emailed the law review a while ago, they said they do an exercise for the transfers in August. It would also be nice if they'd give us consistent information - Friday morning, beginning of August? Very different.

I guess you don't get to do OCI if they tap you in August. Kind of sucks if that's the case. Even though I want to do PI, it would be nice to do biglaw for a year or two and crush my debt.MrSparkle wrote:Does anyone know Stanford's OCI/law review tryout schedule then? Yea, the deadline for submitting the "binding agreement" to do OCI where I'm at is August 2. I'm probably going to have to withdraw if I don't hear anything by then. This is ridiculous...we paid them $100 for what, exactly?

Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
I haven't seen anything at my current school about a binding deadline for OCI... is that typical?

For what it's worth, I dealt with this scenario 0L and ultimately got into my reach... You lose $$ on deposits, but get over it quickly if accepted.SandScale004 wrote:+1sap wrote: It would also be nice if they'd give us consistent information - Friday morning, beginning of August? Very different.
I am sure a lot of us have offers at other schools too, I'd like a decision mainly so I know which coast I need to look at for an apartment. Don't really want to sign a lease then find out I got S after all...

Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
I think TCR is to just plan everything as if you aren't going to get into S (as the vast majority of us will not). Find a place to lease now because it will be impossible later, and just sublet or assign the lease later if you end up getting in. That's what I'm doing and if for some reason I can't find someone to take the lease (unlikely) $8,000 is a small price to pay to be on the Best Coast near my family for the next two years.

I flame nothing and I want to go on record as stating that I think Stanford Admissions is doing a great job. Whenever they make their decision is A-Ok with this guy!

If they are reading this - and sure, they probably are, occasionally, hi guys! I hope you liked my essay, I super want to go to Stanford - I'm pretty sure they understand our frustration, the same way we understand that evaluating 200 straight A students probably takes a while. Doesn't mean we can't wish we had firm plans by nowtransferhopes2013 wrote:I flame nothing and I want to go on record as stating that I think Stanford Admissions is doing a great job. Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
Just as an FYI: OCI bids were due Aug 1 last year, and career services reached out to us right away - super helpful and very competent. OCI is generally sometime around Aug 20-30, and registration is done on Sept 23rd (I was very freaked out as a transfer about registering bc at Hastings you never get the classes you want. At SLS you get all the classes you want without much difficulty.)
edit: they let us all in on the same day, so the LR write-on was shortly thereafter, and they let us know before OCI started, which was helpful. (sad for me...didn't get on, if you don't get on and want to join the law & policy review lmk, but at least I knew, and I still got 15+ callbacks and 8 offers so I wouldn't stress out much)

Congrats! Yay! At least we know they're starting... did you send any LOCI or anything that they were responding to as far as offers and needing a response?

Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
Thank you! I'm still very much in a state of shock haha.
My only communication with them recently was to update my resume to reflect law review (kind of a late update) and to ask if they would have decisions soon.
Stats for posterity:
School: Bottom of T14
GPA: ~top 5%
Other: Had a pretty compelling (I think) family reason to want to be in CA over the East Coast for the next two years that I talked about in PS.

Re: Stanford Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
I kinda called it for myself at noon. Then again, if they have to make 15 phonecalls and each phonecall takes 15 minutes (about? including interval time between phonecalls to do administrative checklisting), it would take them 3.75 hours to get it all done.
So maybe a few more are coming after lunch. With a 9AM in-time, they wouldn't be able to get them all done even if they started at the absolute beginning of the workday. Which they wouldn't have.
Curious, those who got called - are your last names near the beginning of the alphabet? If they do it alphabetically, I'm definitely out.
