It sounds about as vague as people describing OCI at school and claiming a certain job has already offered, etc. but they've only heard "some dude" got the offer.
sorry guys, i am not dropping names. Most of TLS is subtle and people often feel the need to prospect their identities or that of employers/recruiters.

The bottom line is, some law firms will not hiring transfers this year, or at least substantially raising the threshold. Prepare yourselves however you see fit.
Would you please stop throwing these wild conjectures around without giving some sort of reasoning and an explanation as to why anyone should take such a consequential statement seriously? I'm not asking you for a name and social security number but if you're going to say that "a big law source" said something, you need to explain the type of big law source and why they said whatever they said.

Telling everyone on a transfer forum that "some law firms will not [be] hiring transfers this year, or [will be] ... substantially raising the threshold" is irresponsible if you're not going to take the time to thoroughly explain. There is a difference between saying that transfers are generally less marketable than other students at the school (which we already know) and saying that for some unknown reason, next year, firms have suddenly decided that transfer students are more undesireable and flat out will not be hiring them. Why next year? Did they ever hire transfers? Increasing what threshold (the grades from their old school or new one?) Do you have any idea what you're actually talking about or are you just trying to be a flame?

for the record, my prof had it for amonth, then just sat down arnd wrote it 20 minutues. so dont think all hope is lost.
I told him the deadline. I didn't tell him the LSAC can take a week to process it. I wasn't aware of that. However, he made it clear that the deadline would not be a problem. I guess that doesn't matter if he doesn't know about the processing delay.

I probably would not ask him again. Maybe you can provide him a paid envelope as a way of "nudging him" without actually nudging him.

I am not making wild conjectures. Nor do I need to do anything for you. In the future you might get better responses from people who have access to information that you would like by asking rather than ranting.

also, when I first posted this I provided an explanation. That apparently transfers are "chances", that some big law do not want to take. Because they had bad experiences in the past. In addition, given the economy and the number of competitive students they have available, they are choosing not to hire transfers. I even prefaced this as "anecdotal evidence" AND I said I am still going to try and transfer because its still in my own best career interest. Nor did I make generalizations and say this was every big law recruiter or anything of the like.

Whatever their reasons, the bottom line is still the bottom line. Those particularly recruiters I spoke to will not be hiring transfers next OCI (or at least not nearly as frequently). If you would like more information, you are free to generate your own contacts and ask them yourself.

I am not trying to flame, like I have been saying, I am merely reporting. I am still going to transfer if possible.

-- For example, here is an excerpt from a recent TLS conversation on the recruiter thread.

on the second, mind-numbingly crushing grades at the first institution (i'm somewhat skeptical of transfers - sorry - we've had a bunch of bad experiences) and awesome personalities. despite my parenthetical i have given many callbacks/offer recommendations to transfer students - but since we would only give so many callbacks to a student at the initial institution i would expect that student's performance to meet those criteria
Can you elaborate on your bad experiences with transfers? Are you talking in terms of work product being a lower quality or something else? I'm a transfer going to a firm this summer (lower-ranked Vault firm) and I don't want to be a "bad experience".
Some bad work product, unprepared for "big-firm" life, etc.

I did that the first time. The envelope had postage and was fully addressed. I even wrote his return address in there.

Please see your comment (which is what I was responding to) stating that:
The bottom line is, some law firms will not hiring transfers this year, or at least substantially raising the threshold. Prepare yourselves however you see fit.
I love how that somehow isn't unfounded when the only basis for your conclusion was taken from one recruiter's statement which said:
on the second, mind-numbingly crushing grades at the first institution (i'm somewhat skeptical of transfers - sorry - we've had a bunch of bad experiences) and awesome personalities. despite my parenthetical i have given many callbacks/offer recommendations to transfer students - but since we would only give so many callbacks to a student at the initial institution i would expect that student's performance to meet those criteria
I still don't see any rational reason to believe that firms have a policy of not hiring transfer students for the sole reason that they are transfer students. My whole point is that you are painting your opinion in a way that makes it seem as though someone who transfers to a better school is now in a worse position for OCI.

I merely reported a fact that I was told, I did not paint it anyway.

The bottom line remains, apparently some firms will not be hiring transfers. The end. No more no less.

I am afraid of this myself... and I don't trust LSAC either. I will be mailing in my LORs directly to the admissions office myself (overnight if need be). If I were you and it got really late in the game, I would get in touch with the professor and ask if they would be willing to give you the letter so you could send it out directly yourself. Let them know that it has nothing to do with them, you just are worried that LSAC won't process the LOR in time. Even if the professor would prefer not to do that, at least it'll light a fire under him. Good luck!

My guess would be complete or they wouldn't be able to control the process when people wait two extra weeks to send in a LOR or transcript.

I wonder why they would have an earlier deadline then?

There deadline is March 15th for EA. I just asked if I could submit an extra letter of rec that a prof. is lagging on that would be considered for a EA and they said they would only consider it if it is in b/f the 15th.

http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... udents.htm

I am un-ranked as of right now how could I find out if I am competitive? My GPA is high, I got a highest grade in one of my classes and my school has begun to through money at me( I went here at sticker).
