Did anyone apply to NYU in late june and get a status checker yet? I called them and they said they have all my materials, but I still have not received a status checker...

Anyone hear from American, USD, W&M, BU or Lewis&C?
If so, did you get denied or accepted? And if so, what were your stats.

T2 in the 80s, Top 1%, solid softs (law review, 3 cali awards, some WE):
GULC - accepted in June (deferred EA)
UVA - rejected
Harvard - rejected
Columbia - accepted & attending
Penn - withdrew
NYU - withdrew
Advice - get your stuff in early, don't apply to UVA if non-VA resident, don't apply to Berkley if non-west coast
ETA - Where I should've applied: Columbia, NYU, Penn, Michigan

Re: 2011 Transfer Cycle
I agree with the VA thing, UVA uses transfers to bump up their in-state percentage like no other. But I've known of several east coasters/southerners who have gotten into Boalt.Vronsky wrote:T2 in the 80s, Top 1%, solid softs (law review, 3 cali awards, some WE):

Re: 2011 Transfer Cycle
I kind of agree with Vronsky; while people have gotten in without CA ties, they really seem to prefer west coasters, or at the very least, those that want to work on the west coast (at least this year).Transferthrowaway wrote:I agree with the VA thing, UVA uses transfers to bump up their in-state percentage like no other. Re: 2011 Transfer Cycle
I have definitive proof of their west-coast bias. I was top 5% at Wisconsin, and my friend (also on TLS) was top 5% at Wisconsin as well. We both applied to Berkeley and I got in and he got rejected. Why? Hard to say exactly-- I had some more work experience but what I think really made the difference was that I was born, raised and graduated from high school in San Francisco. My friend had no CA connections whatsoever.keg411 wrote:I kind of agree with Vronsky; while people have gotten in without CA ties, they really seem to prefer west coasters, or at the very least, those that want to work on the west coast (at least this year).Transferthrowaway wrote:I agree with the VA thing, UVA uses transfers to bump up their in-state percentage like no other. I was able to write a PS talking about my desire to return to the region my friends and family are in. He was not able to write such an essay.
Also, they ARE a public school, so perhaps somewhere in their charter they like to cater to California residents, or at least west coasters.

Hastings chewed me up and spit me out. I have also been denied the coveted Fordham admission. Now Cardozo is my glimmering ray of hope. I cross my fingers and hope...

Re: 2011 Transfer Cycle
Recent data shows that the UC's have actually been admitting more out-of-state applicants, at least at the undergraduate level, presumably for tuition dollars.Regionality wrote:I have definitive proof of their west-coast bias. If I had to hazard a guess - and this is only a guess - Berkeley wants to accept people who will succeed out of the school. For a lot of people looking to break into a market (CA), having ties seems to be key. Ergo, Berkeley is looking for people with ties to the area so that they'll succeed at OCI and on the job market in general.
Just a guess, though.

Marquette- complete 6/17
University of Wisconsin- complete? 6/27
I've just got a bad feeling about both of these, feel like I'm going to get stuck where I am.
My intuition was wrong.
In @ Marquette via email 6/30. Back to my home state, hell or high water!
