I can't imagine anyone in that list being outright rejected in EA barring any "negative softs" they haven't told us about like running a drug cartel or being tried for war crimes.

I hope you are right. Do you have a specific reason why not, besides good (or in my case mediocre) numbers? Do only a very few get rejected?

Why would they? All of those #s are strong candidates for admission in regular decision. I don't see anyone in there who wouldn't be competitive in RD according to Yahoo group transferapps past databases.gulceatransfer wrote:I hope you are right. Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
First time poster - and I'm really just posting to add my information so you all can maybe use it to figure out what's going on.
I am in the top 5% at a T4. I didn't really think I would be able to transfer into Georgetown, but I was willing to spend $80 to roll the dice. I had a few respectable people tell me it was possible, they've seen it done, etc. So I rolled.
Well, I didn't go to DR or get an acceptance letter or anything, but I did get the deferral email and my status date changed to 4/27, just like several of you.
I interpreted that as a good thing for me. I figured I would probably be rejected b/c I'm just not really ranked quite high enough considering where I am now. Sure, maybe there are a couple compelling things about me and I thought I wrote a nice personal statement, but I figured I just wouldn't make the GULC cut. I was optimistic, but realistic. When I got the deferral email, I interpreted that to mean that I may just have a chance and that if I can maintain or move up in the rankings here I might get in during the RD process.
However, what I am not sure of is whether or not anyone has actually been rejected as of this point. Maybe deferral=rejection. I wouldn't think so, but I'm just not sure.
Anyway, maybe that will help you all. Maybe not. I just thought I'd add my stats/situation to the mix.

Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
Hey guys... Ive been following the thread but havent posted until now. Currently I am at Michigan State University. To my knowledge, there was 4 of us from here that applied EA. My status has not changed from 4/20/10 Application Under Review, and I am 3.80/ Top 9%. However, my friend was Top 16% and he received a deferral email today. I am not sure if the other guys, Top 10% and Top 1% (4.0) have heard anything.
But maybe as a positive note... Someone from here last year got in with a 3.6 through Georgetown's RD. (he had played a D1 sport in college and also military time)
Ill keep yall posted and hopefully this purgatory will end for all those who havent heard. Good luck everyone.

Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
Thx for the info. I don't think deferral = rejection at all. There is no reason for them to be nice about rejecting people. In any event it would be much worse, and not nearly as "nice", to string someone along knowing they were not going to accept you.selfloathingtransfer wrote:First time poster - and I'm really just posting to add my information so you all can maybe use it to figure out what's going on.

I was deferred this morning.stinger35 wrote:
Anyone want to compile the numbers of those who did hear back today - just tryin to see if there is any correlation. All of these numbers seems pretty damn good. Hard to imagine we are all outright rejected. Still though, doesn't mean one/some of us aren't I suppose.
T40, top 3%. Thought I had strong softs as well with two legal internships in the fall/spring and a federal judicial internship in the DC area for the summer, but I guess they weren't as convincing to the admissions board.
Good luck to all.

This makes me think that today was just round 1 of deferrals. Can't want to go though the same anxiety tomorrow.Zinthar wrote:I was deferred this morning.stinger35 wrote:

But why would they defer multiple days? its not like by tomorrow they will review a whole new group. I think if anything it would be a few days before we get any more news.Butters23 wrote:This makes me think that today was just round 1 of deferrals. I agree. But who knows? Nothing has gone according to plan here and it doesn't seem like there is any rhyme or reason to when they are sending things out or even who is getting accepted for that matter. After I wasn't in the first round of decisions, I seriously didn't really stress, just figured "whatever." But now, I must admit, this shit sucks. Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
I bet the first round of decisions was clear cut, i.e. acceptance or deferral. I think the remaining batch is less clear as to whether to defer or to accept. Going through the last 2 years of bulletin boards, I've not seen any transfer applicant admit that he/she was rejected during EA.

Exactly. That's my question. Has ANYONE been explicitly rejected?dcpolitico wrote:Going through the last 2 years of bulletin boards, I've not seen any transfer applicant admit that he/she was rejected during EA.

I wouldn't give up, though. I'll probably write a LOCI, if I get deferred. If you are really, really into GULC, maybe you should visit their campus and talk to an adcom. I bet only a few transfer applicants who live outside of DC do that each year.
edit: I retracted my speculative comment about the new dean.

I also have been following this, but have not posted. I am at a top 50 with a 3.87. They do not rank after first semester, but after second semester that makes the top 5% cut compared to past years. I went under review on 4/20 and have not heard anything yet. I would be shocked if this is a reject, I think I am of the same belief of them holding on to some applications under they hear back from some of the first round of admits. Then they fill those spots and defer the rest, but who knows.
