3.9 first semester at Vandy/UT with what I think should be a strong second semester as well. Going for CCN and H. Should I attempt Y/S? Chances for all of them?

YS is up to you but no one can predict.

So how many potential H transfers are doing write-on?

Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
So for transfer logistics, does the CAS of our undergrad stuff when we first applied to law school still apply? What exactly do we need to do? We go through LSAC for everything, right?
IIRC we need:
Dean's Certificate from UG (get a new one I guess?)
Dean's Certificate from law school
1L transcript
Rec letters
Personal statement
Application (is this all on LSAC?)
What else?

For those who are applying to Columbia, did you get an email with your applicant status checker information? Or any email confirmation at all? It's been almost a week and I haven't heard anything. LSAC lists the application as complete.

Go off of the individual school checklists. Some schools will take your UG transcript via CAS, some don't require UG certification, and some (fucking Columbia...) require UG certification from every school *attended,* not just your degree conferring one.

They'll eventually email you. Didn't realize that was happening right now. Fuck. That. Shit. You'd have to be some kind of psychopath to do two write-ons in a row just in case you get into H. There aren't even spots reserved for transfers too.Joscellin wrote:So how many potential H transfers are doing write-on?

Would H/S w/o journal give better prospects than wustl top 5% w/ law review? Even worth it then? I mean if I'm not in the top 5% I wouldn't be getting into H/S anyway.

It's a calculated gamble, for sure. Worst case scenario I hate myself for another week of work. That's a reasonably small price to pay for even an unlikely potential payoff.Nebby wrote:Doing H write on is a waste time imo

H w/o journal is better than whatever you have outside of T14

srs. 1.) You don't even know if you'll get in; 2.) Even if you do, you might not get selected for a journal; 3.) If you go to H, you dont need to be on a fucking journal

Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
I'd expect so. Keep in mind that your 2L OCI will be dictated by your WUSTL credentials. What schools like H/S offer is more opportunities because they have a greater selection of firms at OCI and a name that will help you get your resume in the door when you massmail.(although, if you have the credentials to get into H or S as a transfer, you'd be fine getting massmail interviews) And they offer other benefits both in the short-term and the long-term depending on your goals.PeanutsNJam wrote:tyftNebby wrote:Doing H write on is a waste time imo

But what specific prospects are you looking for?(goals?)
And, imo, the H write-on isn't worth it. But I won't say not to do it. You might get on. But odds are pretty low. But if you do get on, it's certainly worth it. Issue is that you don't even know if you'll get into H.(although, I think you can get a good feel for whether or not you have a strong shot) Anyways, don't worry about not doing it. You'll be fine. And you'll enjoy the time not spent on the H write-on.
BTW, if you transfer to S, they have a transfer write-on IIRC after they send out acceptances.
And as I recall, you can still join a secondary journal at H or S because there's usually one with positions open. I could be wrong about that but I remember people saying that last year. That's if you want to do a journal. But if you don't, don't sweat it. You'll be fine.

I think they say that but I transferred in despite a 166 LSAT.Charlie_Bradbury wrote:I was under the (perhaps misguided) impression that the only people H took as transfers were those that barely missed the cut applying the first round, but maybe I should reconsider! ThanksTop20TransferHopeful wrote:Why not Harvard too? You will definitely get in at Columbia and NYU considering 5% at TT gets in these a lot of the time. I'd say good shot at any school besides Yale.Charlie_Bradbury wrote:3.88 first semester (rank is #12 out of 285) at T20 school.
This semester's grades should be just as good or better.
Any thoughts on Stanford, Columbia or NYU?
Thanks!
Also, re HLR write-on. I think (maybe?) one transfer got on HLR this past year, but I'm not even sure if that happened. I decided to apply too late to do the write-on. Instead, I joined two secondary journals. I'm not sure I needed to do that, but that's how I try to make up for not having HLR. All the secondary journals are walk-on though, so that's one less thing you have to do.

Hi all! I am 3.81 at a T4 (no rank). I applied to Gtown but was deferred. Where else do I have a chance?
I am really interested in UCLA as well. Would I have a chance? Also URM.
Thanks.

also keep in mind most firms that don't interview at WUSTL have approximately zero idea about the grade inflation and this seems to help quite a significant amountlawman84 wrote:I'd expect so. 70's school NYC.
3.59 GPA (good for 10%) currently but after taking the finals I am 90% certain I will end up between 3.75 and 3.85.
Aiming for HYS, CCN. Realistically Columbia/NYU are my top choices. Won't bother transferring if I can't get in top 6.
