Re: Columbia transfer class of 2012
How did everyone else do for OCI? I'm a little disappointed with my 14 screeners because the school says it's usually 15-20. That said, I got almost all of my 1-20, but I didn't get any of the ones I assumed would be locks at 28, 29, 30 (Cravath, Davis Polk, etc.).
Anyone else have this experience? Better? Worse?

I'm pleasantly surprised: I got 19, including many of my top picks.FlanSolo wrote:How did everyone else do for OCI? Pretty happy. I got 18. It's basically all of my top 10 and then like every other one.
Wish they were a little more spread out. I have 6 on the 9th, 8 on the 10th, 2 on the 13th, and 2 on the 14th.

Does anyone know last year's OCI results for transfer? I read some posts and found some people did not get any offer after transfer to CCN. Scary!

Very happy with OCI results. I got 18 screenings, which is about 17 more screening interviews than I would've gotten had I gone through my old school's OCI.

I guess I was just particularly unlucky, or was too casual about bidding the tippy-top firms low on my list, but did those of you who got 18+ bid on firms outside NY as well? I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong (not that it would help, obviously).

Re: Columbia transfer class of 2012
I bid on Lowenstein (offices in NY and NJ), all the rest in NY. I tried to just sprinkle the list with firms that were around even or were underbid last year. I also got some advice from an acquaintance at Arnold & Porter who works in New York, and several of the firms she recommended as great places to work, like Cravath and Sive Paget, happened to be less popular. So I put those toward the top.FlanSolo wrote:I guess I was just particularly unlucky, or was too casual about bidding the tippy-top firms low on my list, but did those of you who got 18+ bid on firms outside NY as well? I got 22 and most are outside of NY. I put some of the top NYC firms on the bottom which I didn't get. I think even if those firms weren't overbid in some cases it's your own schedule that would bump them off - if you have 10 bids for firms that are doing interviews over one or two days the computer probably will get rid of your #28 bid if it's going to cause a scheduling issue.

Any one else utilize the add period? I just picked up 10 pre-selects to bolster by disappointing 13. Surprised easy it was considering I picked up interviews I bid on but didnt get through the lottery

Add period was amazing. I almost missed it but my flight was delayed. I picked up an additional 9 in markets I have ties to. Nuts.

Anything with available interviews shows an "add" button in the firm list. But there's nothing really left in NYC.trbrny wrote:How do I go about adding firms?iu_transfer wrote:Any one else utilize the add period? Re: Columbia transfer class of 2012
Would it be even worth going if I got in at this point? How many firms are left that I could possibly get? Anything in Miami? If there's some, I may call and try to squeeze a decision out of them today with my long-awaited NYU acceptance. Just trying to figure that out.

Re: Columbia transfer class of 2012
There's pretty slim pickings left, not sure about anything in Miami, but I wouldn't be totally surprised because most of what's left are secondary markets. Not sure if they are reserving any slots for EIP though from the regular pool though - definitely a question for admissions.canesfan1986 wrote:Would it be even worth going if I got in at this point? However, whether it's worth going would depend totally on whether you can participate in EIP. For NYU, you should be able to fully participate with your 50 bids, and given that this at least somewhat of a numbers game, it would be a really bad idea to take CLS if you were left with the EIP scraps.

Re: Columbia transfer class of 2012
There's almost nothing left to add in EIP. Some overseas offices (Europe, Asia, Hong Kong) and that's about all I'm seeing. And the add period closes at 5pm today.
Maybe admissions holds onto some spots for late admits or opens up the add period for you guys again, but it seems unlikely. EIP starts in a week.
Also, we got an email from student services for late admits. It extended some deadlines in recognition of the fact that some people weren't accepted until after the deadline. That seems like a pretty likely sign that they are either 1) done admitting people or 2) very close to being done admitting people.
As always, best of luck to everyone.

I know the deadline to hear from journals is tomorrow, but I started getting paranoid when I hadn't heard anything. Have you guys heard from a journal?

Nope. I sent a statement of interest to one journal and they said they "hope" to send staff offers by tomorrow. I don't think we have anything to worry about.

Okay... NOW I'm getting a little nervous about journals. Do they have a firm deadline that they must make their staff offers today? Anybody heard this morning?

Maybe I shouldn't have copy/pasted from my CLS transfer app. No word here either.
Random: what do we think the dress code is for orientation? There is an EIP kickoff event afterwards and a Cravath reception. Suit and tie day..?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing-- are we suiting up?
I'm going to have to leave orientation around 3:30 or 4:00 to get to my job. No reception for me.

Re: Columbia transfer class of 2012
Playing catch up because I have been off this thread for awhile
For OCI: I got 19 interviews, all Boston because that is all I bid on, and I got all of my bids. I cancelled a few that didn't have my area of interest. Also not well distributed -- 7 on the 13th, each with only 5-10 minutes between. FML.
For Journal: Nothing over here at all. I only sent letters of interest to the Science one and the Arts ones, though I ranked three or four others (can't remember which).
I did have an MMR form snafu that I am super worried will prevent me from pre-registering. Sent it in today, so hopefully everything will be fine, but they said it takes a couple business days to process, so even though I got it in before the 30 days, I will probably still end up with a hold on my account. Super.
Has everyone completely withdrawn from their current school? I am still having some cold feet and haven't withdrawn yet.

To contribute...
OCI: I received 15 of my 30, and picked up one more during open bidding. I bid entirely on NY firms. I've also heard if you have some "in" previously (say you were pre-selected at your old school), you can reach out to a recruiter at that firm about coming by their hospitality suite. I was told by Columbia students some firms will set up an interview on the spot.
Journals: I've heard nothing.
Orientation: Suit? Business casual? I was planning to attend the EIW kick-off but luke warm on the reception.
