Something else, because I didn't apply to PILS. I am waiting for the email to see specifically what it is, because I've never heard of it before.js87 wrote:Congrats! Starry and other Good Wife viewers:
This episode broke my heart! Never thought i'd feel sympathy for not-amanda-knox. Damn. I liked all those really nuanced jury people, too. And go Diane!
I have to go to bed now. Maybe i'll have a secret scholarship somehow happen in the morning. I doubt it. I'm just at the medians and they don't seem to want to reward me for my enthusiasm.

SO TRUE on the foxy knoxy thing! I love when they pull cases out of the headlines. The jurors were a nice touch, too! And the end just killed me. I love Diane and Marlboro man, thoughvolsi wrote:Starry and other Good Wife viewers:

I also must say I am a big fan of "Willicia" ...hahaha.
And I too am holding out hope on perhaps receiving this magical scholarship phone call.

Re: GULC c/o 2013
Is anyone else considering one of the three-bedroom options at Gewirz in order to save money? Granted I'll probably blow what I 'save' on food (I like eating
)...
I'm not used to having a roommate, but I hope that no GULC student would need Judge Judy to resolve their crazy roommate problems. The single options take up a huge chunk of the monthly budget and I imagine any room in Gewirz would be used primarily for relaxing and sleeping.
I don't even want to think of studying in my home - I have enough trouble battling insomnia as is.

Re: GULC c/o 2013
Some of my main reasons for not living at Gewirz is that most people will be studying in their rooms and 2 roommates will in fact be worse than one. People have different levels of noise, cleanliness, and schedules. I know it will be more expensive for me to live alone off campus but I'm hoping that will translate into better grades. People will party in their rooms, and depending on who they are, you might have issues. I don't know. If you're in for savings, it might make sense, but only if you're sure it won't affect your studies.Burberry by Burberry wrote:Is anyone else considering one of the three-bedroom options at Gewirz in order to save money? Living with a roommate is hard. Even a seemingly idyllic situation can turn sour.
I'm personally hoping to meet someone really amazing 1L and move in with them for 2 and 3 and live happily ever after in lurve. Yeah, delusional, I know.

What do you all think of GULC's new LRAP? Seems almost too good to be true, right?
If I end up going to GULC, it will almost definitely be at sticker. I'm pretty set on going into government after graduation though, so the LRAP could make it manageable.

Not only will LRAP make it managable, it will mean that you don't pay anything until you are a GS-13, basically; or maybe 12 by then. And even then, you will never pay your entire after-IBR payment, not once during the whole ten years. Unless you get on the Executive Schedule, but then you are set anyway. So basically if you are 100% set on publice service then max out on your debt and put anything you don't spend into a Roth IRA right before you graduate (this is what the financial aid guy at Georgetown said, which was awesome).

It really does sound amazing. My one concern is whether it will last - I mean, could they just cancel the program at any time?Interminable_Waiting wrote:night06 wrote:What do you all think of GULC's new LRAP? Seems almost too good to be true, right?

<3 the LRAP. It's basically a full ride for us PI people. Such a happy thought.
Technically they could cancel it at any time but one would think they'd still honor the students who had already enrolled when they were advertising it. Besides, even the old LRAP was pretty damn good. But I seriously doubt they will scale it back. Within the next few years I'd be willing to bet every T14 has an LRAP on GULC's level. These new LRAPs are possible because with IBR the feds are footing most of the bill. For someone making median PI salaries the LRAP will pay out about $50k over ten years, so basically people who max out their LRAP are getting about a 25% break on tuition. There's no reason to think GULC hasn't already priced this in to their rates. The LRAP's not going anywhere.

There's a good chance I'll end up at GULC, even though I have a scholarship at another T14, so hopefully this all pans out as expected.

Its not going anywhere, at least not for our class. And the trend seems to be in the other direction, as you mentioned, with all LRAPs getting stronger over time.

Out of curiosity, are there any other T14s that have already set up an LRAP similar to GULC's?

Yale, Stanford, Boalt. Northwestern has a new one that works a little different but pays out as much if not more. NYU's is not quite as good but pretty close. UVA and CLS are both rumored to be upgrading theirs. Chicago is announcing their new one this weekend.night06 wrote:Out of curiosity, are there any other T14s that have already set up an LRAP similar to GULC's?
eta: Outside the T14, UCLA and Hastings are the only ones I've seen on this level.

And it's not as bad having a roommate when you have separate bedrooms. There are a few reasons I ever have problems with roommates, and most involve me trying to sleep and them leaving the lights on or something. The other is a dirty kitchen-- it's unacceptable to me.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
