I didn't and I did the survey quickly. The bill looks the exact same as last time. It looks like they deleted off tuition and Health Insurance and just put it back on. I don't know why they did it, but pretty sure it doesn't matter. Did anyones change at all?

Nope, mine is just like yours. Deleted tuition and health insurance and put it back. I also filled out the waiver as soon as it was up and it hasn't been removed yet.

THERE REALLY IS GOING TO BE A POOL PARTY!!!

(I'm not actually excited about swimming, just the The Good Wife. In The Good Wife, the two main characters, Will and Alicia, met at a pool party during Orientation)

According to the Gewirz letter I received in the mail today, it says, "A schedule of welcome events including the welcome reception for residents and their families, POOL PARTY, neighborhood tours, and outdoor cookout will be posted on our Website on August 1st."

Also for those who didn't receive their letter in the mail yet, here's the move-in times for Aug. 21. You can only check in during your time:

9am to 11am: 10th and 11th floor

11am to 1pm: 8th and 9th floor

1pm to 3pm: 6th and 7th floor

3pm to 5pm: 4th and 5th floor

5pm to 7pm: 2nd and 3rd floor

7pm to 8pm: late arrivals

Aug. 22 to Aug. 24, you can check in anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 5p.m.

For those of us living in Gewirz, you can find out your mailing addresses (not physical) by going into MyAccess and viewing addresses and phones.

Hey everyone, new to the board! But I've been reading and a lot of your posts have been helpful.

I'm going to DC this weekend to look for an apartment and I was wondering if anyone knows of a good realtor to call or just has any advice in general.

Also if anyone is looking for a roommate let me know (I'm a girl Jamie if it matters).

Just an FYI, no matter what Rocketman may say he is a man.... Hi btw. :)

Not necessary. The entire campus is setup with wireless internet, including the dorms. Two fewer items you need!

I'm a dork and like hard wired connections whenever I can. How is the wireless internet? Great, Good, Ok, Bad?

Thanks by the way for all the information you give us. It's wonderful. Sorry I thought someone else was you.

So if we want the insurance money refunded, what do we have to do? And will the money go back into out budget (so we get it back in a refund) or will our budget be $1,800 less?

Not to be forward, but the insurance is really cheap for what it is. Are you guys who are declining it covered by parent or spouse plans that are superior? I just can't see getting a cheaper plan independently and having it actually cover anything. I had employer health insurance that was better than this, but not unimaginably so and my COBRA was 640 a month. This is 1800 a year...

am I missing something?

With the new Obama stuff, many people can be on their parent's insurance for much longer than they could before (thought that likely still costs their parents more than $1800/year in dependent coverage)...that is my only guess. I am happy to leave my $700+ cobra for $1800/year!

From my experience and rumblings, connection speed varies. Sometimes it's great, and sometimes it's overloaded and slow. I'm pretty sure you could pick up an Apple Airport Express and setup a mini-network that would be more than sufficient for your room, but that's probably worth double-checking with tech services: The email address for student technology questions is studenthelp@law.georgetown.edu.

I'm happy to help, and no worries--no offense taken! I'll work on setting up a get-together once you're all safely checked in so you all can hopefully feel a little less like isolated 1Ls (which is easy to do when every class you have is with the same section-mates) ... That way, you'll have some friendly (and experienced) faces wandering around campus, should you need us. I'll be at the main campus for all my classes this year (it's my MBA year), but I'll grab a few others to introduce you to, plus I'll be nearby and I'm sure I'll hit several events at the law center. Then we'll meet up again your 2L year when I'm sure some of us will be in the same classes!

Come to think of it, I'm strategically well-placed: I can ask my 1L friends (and my roommate-to-be, in particular) for guidance on all the typical 2L and 3L stuff I'll be doing with you all... so even though I'll be losing my one year of seniority, I can still be the information hookup

When I was uninsured I was paying $50/month for independent insurance. It only covered major things / catastrophes but I havent been sick in many years so who needs all that office visit stuff.

If I wanted the same coverage on my mom's plan, it would cost more. Companies like to subsidize employee coverage, plus employee coverage is basic and thus less risky, while spouse and child (lol at calling us children) coverage is usually supplemental/voluntary, and thus riskier to the insurer, and thus more expensive. I'm guessing the student GULC deal has overall low rates due to the mandatory coverage and a young group, but we have to pay the whole premium, since we are students, not full-time employees.

I work in insurance, but not health insurance, but lots of the factors are the same.

Dan -- there's a waiver on MyAccess you can fill out to waive the insurance. You can only waive it if you're already covered.

I'm still covered by my parents plan for a couple years, so I plan on freeloading off of that for as long as possible

Exactly. With my mom's plan, I'm covered til I'm 26 as long as I'm a full-time student. That was the case before the health care bill. So I don't need to pay the $1,800 a year because her's is really good and free (for me lol)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
