Re: Serving Time in Ithaca (Cornell 2013)
I have the same question.
On a related note, does anyone know who determines the amount you can take out for each loan (subsidized federal loan, unsubsidized federal loan, gradplus loan, etc.)? Is it the Financial Aid Office or government...? Thanks!

There are federal maximums for the Stafford subsidized ($8,500?) and unsubsidized loans ($12,000?). The gradplus loans can cover up to the cost of attendance, I believe.
Today was a bad day of work. I am considering just leaving and going somewhere and relaxing. Taking suggestions.

Cornell determines the amount for gradplus. They should have sent you a letter detailing what their expectations for our cost of living expenses next year will be. This, plus tuition and minus any grants and Stafford loans is the amount you can request from gradplus. They do let you request increases for child care, medical care, and a one time computer purchase.
Also for anyone trying to apply, you apparently can't do gradplus online, you have to fill out the paper form that was attached to the email and send it in.
Things are starting to feel pretty real!

I kind of want to go to Mexico since I've never been. Although a cruise in the Caribbean isn't a terrible idea.. they aren't -incredibly- expensive.vexion wrote:Hawaii, Thailand, Italy, Greece, Spain, England, Cambodia, Vietnam, Peru, St. Thomas, the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Trinidad, Argentina, Brazil...holybartender wrote:Today was a bad day of work. There's an insider's guide on the website that lists the restaurants they recommend:
http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/admiss ... _guide.cfm
and also I found this site a while ago, it seems pretty cool:

My favorites are Maxie's Supper Club (New Orleans style cuisine), Stella's (fantastic but somewhat expensive food near the law school, Wednesday is half off burgers night, good breakfasts), The Noodle House (good noodles, cheap, also near the law school), The Bandwagon (near the commons), and as the Cornell website's "insider guide" notes, Madelines does have kick ass dessert, as well as kick ass dinners, but it's also fairly expensive. IMO the best Indian food is at Diamond's near the commons, best Thai food is Taste of Thai on the commons. The best waffles are at the Mate Factor. Best coffee is at Gimme Coffee, but there isn't a Gimme near the law school, so most people seem to go to CTB (Collegetown Bagels) for the Ithaca Bakery coffee, which is decent.
Anyone else want to pitch in their favorites?

There's a newish Indian restaurant where Sammy's Pizzeria used to be on Eddy Street. I think it is superior to New Delhi Diamond. It almost reminds me of the amazing Indian restaurants back home in Chicago. Almost.Other25BeforeYou wrote: If you're looking for good restaurants, I'm sure current students can help you out.

For more of the greasy spoon fare, State Street Diner and Hal's Deli are good. There's also a very good pizza place in Trumansburg. Four Season's is pretty good for Korean food. Koko's is closer to the law school, but I can't really recommend it heartily.

Sorry about the delay...
I found better scans of the map and guide online than I would have ever been able to make myself, so here are the links:
Map of the area with a few points of interest getting their own points on the map: --LinkRemoved--
Restaurant list: --LinkRemoved--
Restaurant menu guide, has a map on pages 21+22 that corresponds with the restaurant list so you can see where they all are: --LinkRemoved--

Dining:
Sangam for decent indian lunch buffet (on Eddy Street right where it meets the bottom of Dryden)
The Thai Cuisine is the best Thai in town and has a pretty good dim sum as well
The Carriage House has the best breakfast in town, but Stella´s is great for everything, including breakfast (served until 4 pm)
Try Cafe Pacific across from Plum Tree : relatively inexpensive and they have great dishes, ie yakinku don, they also serve sushi that is about half the price of plum tree but not as good.
The house casserole at Souvlaki House is very good
Willow is a good but fairly expensive date option
Pangea is a very hard to fine restaurant, but is probably the best in Ithaca.
Bon Appetit

I am in Austria, but I told them to send it to my parents' house in the US. I also got an email at the beginning of the year saying that my net ID was coming "soon" since I had already deposited the year before. Le sigh.holybartender wrote:Yeah but aren't you in Austria?sjsteece wrote:I am....

You can look yourself up on the people finder so at least you'll know your email address. Not much you can do sans activation code, though.sjsteece wrote:I am in Austria, but I told them to send it to my parents' house in the US. On the university website in the search bar on the top right, you can switch it to search people.

There are two buildings on campus that share my last name. I think it's time to exploit that.vexion wrote:There's an alum with my exact first, middle and last name. I've been scooped!mec30 wrote:On the university website in the search bar on the top right, you can switch it to search people.

If they are a Law School alum, you could just use their information and bypass the whole law school thing.vexion wrote:There's an alum with my exact first, middle and last name.
