Mexican is what I have been looking for since I got here (Toreros @ Garrett Rd. is lackluster, but the chorizo con juevos is tasty). Definitely will be trying that place soon. Total Wine has been on my list right after Neo-China, and I did try Jason's Deli today (delicious). v8 has enough recommendations to keep anyone busy for a month lol. We should try a TLS meetup @ The Federalist since I remember someone here mentioning that place once before.
Federalist is good, so is the Joyce, so is Tyler's.

I can't wait to try Vaquita and Mi Pueblo. I tried Toreros, which I thought was good but certainly not great. Although, I went on monday and there are $2 margarita's and I will always be down for that.

Federal, Tyler's, and Bull McCabe all have solid beer lineups. I haven't been to James Joyce yet but probably will head up there soon (maybe Thursday?). I think I'm heading to the beach this weekend so I can get a severe sunburn for orientation.

Well that's not good. You should be reading for class, not doing nothing. :P

Duly noted.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-y-pupu ... bor-durham - local, cheap, authentic; bring your Spanish skills though.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-la-vaquita-durham - yet to try it, but I hear it's the best

http://www.yelp.com/biz/carrburritos-carrboro - not exactly authentic Mexican, but delicious food and a nice atmosphere too

Total Wine is definitely awesome, but Sam's Quik Shop on Erwin road has a ridiculous selection of craft and import beer.
Sam's has some good deals too. Also, my property prof recommended Caffe Driade, and yet I still have not gone. This is disappointing because I love me some coffee.

They make espresso-based beverages correctly. It's definitely worth your time, as a well made cappuccino is hard to find outside of a major city.

Thanks for the mexican food tips. So many places to try with no time to try it (eating, unlike studying, is optional).

Regarding parking: is the lot on Towerview before Wannamaker traffic circle the only green zone parking, or are there other lots to park in? The website says they give out over 1,000 permits, but that lot couldn't hold more than 100 cars.

I've been parking in the lot at the intersection of Science and Academy across from the entrance to the Washington Duke Inn, and I'm pretty sure that's a green lot (or else my parking permit is letting me swipe into the wrong lot, which is entirely possible).

This heat is outrageous. I regret my decision to come to NC.

Edit: I am not serious, about the regret part.

I knew that it can and does get like this. We only have one month of real heat to deal with.

Edit: I unloaded my car today at about 2:00 pm. That sucked.

I unloaded a large truck with two movers I hired and I still had to take a break every 20 minutes or so. I went through 4 full glasses of water and still feel like I was dehydrated.

I am pretty close. I have this big desk bought off craigslist filled with books that were each more expensive than the desk itself.

Add: Although it should be, the desk is not made of rich mahogany.

I got all my stuff Tuesday morning and I think I have everything out of boxes, just not put away as of yet. Cable guy came out today and hooked up my internet so now I don't have to window mooch from my neighbors with unsecured networks.

Lessons learned at 1155 EST:

Durham weather can be unpredictable

You cannot hear rain on the 3rd story

Do not leave Jeep topless without checking weather report

Thank God for thunder

In your dreams. Unless you band together with a few students and get a commuter pass (instead of your individual passes), you are parking in the green zone. Because the green zone spots on Towerview are ALWAYS full by about 4 in the morning, you are parking on Bassett if you are there early, or in the overflow lot if you get there when everyone else does (To get to it, you just keep driving on Bassett. Eventually it will curve to the right and down, and you will see the lot.).

If you get there between the hours of 10 and noon, you are not parking at all.

Frank Bassett Drive is where I was planning to park, although I hope I'll be able to snag a spot right off of Science Drive (in front of the athletic fields) first thing in the morning.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
