They usually send that out a lot closer to the start of class.pelmen74 wrote:+1, anyone get this email yet?thickfreakness wrote:
Okay. Where do babies come from?
In any case, when two law students are bored and sexually frustrated, they make a fire and signal the stork to come using the smoke. The stork then proceeds to dance a jig and the baby descends upon a cloud, already full of the knowledge of law.

By convincing the girl that you're worth the investment. Oh, that dude. I sat next to him at the faculty intro thingy. I kind of like him. He's totally oblivious to how he comes off to people around him.someones alt wrote: I won't have time for friends while I'm busy reading my brazilian law E&E and saying vis-a-vis

Apologies if I threw anyone off, but I don't remember filling out a form. It's possible that the mentor process is a bit different for summer starters. /shrugBosque wrote:Not true. You have to fill out an interest form that DBA send out, or else you don't get a mentor. So check your email if you want one. I think I missed the sign up to serve as a mentor too. Oh well, I am all of your unofficial mentor. Feel free to ask me anything.

In my section, there are, at minimum, 3 couples (possibly 4 or 5, some couples are more casual).Do many law school students date each other? I was considering hanging out at the DUMC for that purpose (or UG tour groups as wonder someonesalt ratted me out on).
Step 1. Gather law students.
Step 2. Add stress.
Step 3. ???
Step 4. Babies.

Also, June LSAT scores came out. So, so glad I didn't have to do THAT again. I took the test in 2008 and 2009.

This long without a post? Cmon, Duke, we're better than that.
Anyone planning any big get-a-ways with the last month-and-a-half of summer? I'll be in Florida and will be looking to see how cheap I can get a cruise for.

"Duke's student financial aid budget includes $2,500 towards the cost of purchasing a new computer, which will cover the cost of purchasing a portable computer." Does anyone know the process for buying a laptop through the school?

Not sure about how to buy one through Duke, but I think the $2,500 is a one-time budget increase for the purpose of buying a computer. Basically, they'll make you eligible for $2,500 more in GradPlus loans your first year so you can buy a new computer.someones alt wrote:"Duke's student financial aid budget includes $2,500 towards the cost of purchasing a new computer, which will cover the cost of purchasing a portable computer." However, I don't know anyone who purchased a laptop through the school since they seem pretty overpriced. I'm pretty sure that you don't have to buy through the school to take out the $2500.

The financial aid person I talked to said they will increase your budget for a laptop and any related supplies (printer and other school supplies). You need to purchase the laptop (doesn't matter from where) and then send them a receipt and they will credit you with more loans (or something like that, I do remember they said they want receipts).someones alt wrote:"Duke's student financial aid budget includes $2,500 towards the cost of purchasing a new computer, which will cover the cost of purchasing a portable computer." I am pretty sure that is not true. I think I had the increase in my loans, and I never sent in any receipts. Although they might have changed the system with the switch over to in-house lending.Jericwithers wrote:The financial aid person I talked to said they will increase your budget for a laptop and any related supplies (printer and other school supplies). I've called to ask similar questions before. I believe you fill out a student budget increase request from, which can be made for a set list of items (you are not allowed to request more $ for a car or increased living expenses). The request goes to the dean, who can grant or deny your request.Bosque wrote:I am pretty sure that is not true. I think I had the increase in my loans, and I never sent in any receipts. Cool, thanks for the help. So should I call and get this form sent to me now, or do I need to wait until orientation? I'd prefer to get my computer ASAP so if we're allowed to go ahead and do the increase now I'd like to do it.

I'd take care of it now. Just remember you don't get the cash until the date of the first disbursement.someones alt wrote:Cool, thanks for the help. $2,500 for a laptop, eh? I might do this and spring for a Macbook pro...

Re: Duke Class of 2013
I apologize, it must be additional school/computing related expenses beyond a laptop that they want a receipt for. I thought it was nice that in addition to a laptop you can increase your loans for MS office, a printer, and anything else that you can legitimize as a school expense. Speaking of which, if anyone lives in Dallas I will give you some money to pick me up a printer that is on sale at Frys lol.Bosque wrote:I am pretty sure that is not true.
