Re: UVA Class of 2013
Ok no one has said anything for 3 days so I'll be that guy and make a random comment:
The apartment balcony one over and 2 floors down from mine is having a beer pong game. 3pm beer pong. I will assume it is a foreshadowing of next year...

Thanks for the tip. How do y'all do roommate hunting? Do most people use craigslist or is there some better way?

UVA Law 2013
Never posted here before, but thought I would to send some inspiration to those who might think twice about applying to a T14 without the numbers.
My GPA: 3.9 (liberal arts double major)
LSAT: 160 (only tested once)
Admitted Early Decision to UVA. I am a resident of Virginia, so that probably helped, but I certainly never expected to get in with my LSAT. Take the time to create a solid application and you might be surprised (as I was) by where you get in.

Re: UVA Law 2013
I might take you up on that. I sent in my application this weekend and I go to school just an hour away so I've been looking for a convenient time to make it down there. I'll PM you when I figure out a good one.YCrevolution wrote:Congrats! Also, for people who want to visit UVA on Fridays/weekends this fall semester, let me know if you want me show you around.

Re: UVA Class of 2013
Congrats to everyone who just got in!!!
Questions:
For everyone who was recently admitted, do you all put UVA on your resume yet??? Since we haven't started work there yet and what not.
And for other applications (scholarships, internships, etc.), is it safe to put UVA in the education section???
It's definitely something that I want people to note when they examine my resume/education/etc.

I think you can put "University of Virginia, J.D. expected 2013" or whatever as long as you are reasonably certain you'll be attending. I added it to my resume after I sent in my first deposit.

Words cannot express the convenience of Arlington Ct. You can go home and nap between classes then wake up read and walk over.showNprove wrote:Congrats to everyone who has gotten in!
Also, if you want to live in a nice place that is a 3 minute walk to the school, monitor Craigslist etc. for places on Arlington Blvd/Arlington Court.

Re: UVA Class of 2013
Arlington Court is a complex. Arlington Blvd. is a street. You want to live somewhere on Arlington Blvd. because it's so close to the law school, but you can do that without living in Arlington Court. There are other places along Arlington Blvd., such as the Jeffersonian Apartments and the Graduate Center.sdedalus wrote:When can you lock up a place on Arlington Ct.?
I think Jeffersonian opens up in January, and you'd better lock it up when they start taking deposits because it goes fast.
Arlington Court Condominiums is a complex of independently-owned units, so it's a matter of 1) when each unit is going to be vacated and 2) the owner decides to post it. I got a place in Arlington Court because the owner (a really nice old lady) posted the vacancy on Craigslist, and I had the balls to claim it over the phone and mail a deposit to her without visiting. If I took the time to plan a visit someone else would've gotten it first.
I think the same attitude would help you greatly with the Jeffersonian: Deposit first, look later. The main feature you're paying for is the proximity to the law school, and you don't need to see it in person to know you're getting that. Otherwise they're pretty usual places to live.

how much do places on Arlington Blvd run for say a 1 bd room? Is it considerably more expensive than other parts of the grounds?

Find a friend and it gets a lot cheaper.YCrevolution wrote:1 bedroom at the Jeffersonian runs $670 to $740 a month.jcunni5 wrote:how much do places on Arlington Blvd run for say a 1 bd room? Is it considerably more expensive than other parts of the grounds?

1-bedroom units at Arlington Court are in the same range, though there are not that many of them. A lot of the condos at Arlington Court are 2-bedroom units. If you think you can find a roommate though, that can end up being cheaper per person.YCrevolution wrote:1 bedroom at the Jeffersonian runs $670 to $740 a month.jcunni5 wrote:how much do places on Arlington Blvd run for say a 1 bd room? I saw an apartment at Arlington Court, I think. It was nice considering places I've lived. Any comments about how the Jeffersonian compares? Thanks guys!

Thanks YC - you're awesome. I've been looking at Ivy Gardens; close to the law school + not having to share a bathroom = me wanting to live there. Are there any current students who have lived there and can give a similarly candid assessment like YC did for the jeffersonian? From the other posts on TLS it seems like the center of social scene. I'd like to be close to the social stuff, but I don't want to live in a circus.

Ivy rocks. There are no downsides unless you have a pet. It's the center of the social scene, but it's graduate student housing. Our parties involves torts, Taboo, and end at midnight because people get tired.egghead wrote:Thanks YC - you're awesome.
