Hey guys-
Looks like the Jeffersonian is starting to notify people (I just got mine)... I was #3 on the waitlist. I'm sure you all should be hearing soon. Good luck!

For those of you receiving notification from the Jeffersonian, could you also please specify whether you're in a double or a single?
Are either one harder to get?

Totally understand where you're coming from. You could join me in being single in C'ville while the husband lives somewhere else to pay the bills. Just to let you know, I have many classmates doing it this year. You won't be alone; there'll be plenty of support from folks in similar situations.hannah87 wrote:pilotgal wrote:Totally understand where you're coming from. Also there are now two trains a day that run from C-ville straight to NYC, or DC is a two-hour drive with hourly trains to NYC. It's possible to make trips up there that last a few days (fall break, thanksgiving, winter break at least) and see him during the academic year. If you drive to DC right after your last class on Friday you can get a short weekend up there if you need one. You'd really only get to see him Saturday and Sunday morning but it's an option.
Trains are great because you're not driving and you can study during the ride. I actually found if easier to study on the train to New York than in my own apartment, fewer distractions.

thanks so much, vanwinkle! those are all good suggestions. i don't think being apart is going to work, though. we've only been married for 7 months. i think we're going to ASD on 4/9 so maybe the school and the town will speak for themselves!vanwinkle wrote:Just to let you know, I have many classmates doing it this year. Those of you going to the March ASW. What are we going to do Thursday/Friday night? Do TLS fam want to plan something together? We could just set up a meeting place and whoever shows up shows up, that way we don't have to do the ol' "Hey are you on TLS?" routine? Are we going to act like TLS doesn't exist? I need to know.
Current 1Ls-2Ls-3Ls why dont you have a party for us like when Charlie Conway gets accepted to the Skulls? Why don't you all work on that, i'm sure you're not doing anything anyway.

UVA was up 25-24 with one minute left in the half, but they just fouled Scheyer on a three point attempt and he hit all three. Duke's up 27-25 now.YCrevolution wrote:I don't get cable (and don't have tv reception)... what's the score?badwithpseudonyms wrote:Anyone else watching the UVA/Duke game right now?

This all makes me feel a little better, my husband will be in another state for at least the first year. I am trying to look at it positively... what I gain rather than what I lose. Imagine how happy you would be if you were single and someone said that in three years you would get to be with your soulmate... and as a bonus you get to see them from time to time and talk to them every day, right NOW!vanwinkle wrote:Just to let you know, I have many classmates doing it this year. 27-27 @ the half.
EDIT: Too bad they can't buy a basket (or a call, for that matter) in the second half so far.

That's a good way to look at it. My husband will be in Seattle. We own a house that we can't sell without losing a ton of money and aerospace engineering jobs aren't exactly in high demand in Charlottesville. If we didn't have the house, I think he would move with me and just take whatever job he could find, but he has to make the salary he makes now so we can keep up the mortgage, so we've decided we'll just have to make it work separately. I'm going to take the dogs for company and he's going to keep my evil cat.mama wrote:

I was watching it intermittently in a pop up box at work. They really just weren't going to beat Duke without Landesberg.badwithpseudonyms wrote:27-27 @ the half.

They pulled within two with about eight minutes left, but they just couldn't keep the intensity up. If they could have skipped halftime I think they may have won. They we're rolling at the end of the first half.Stringer Bell wrote:I was checking it intermittently in a pop up box at work. The missed open layup and corresponding Duke 3 when I believe it was like 49-45 with 4 minutes or so left was the dagger. Had Farrakhan made that, it could have been interesting.badwithpseudonyms wrote:They pulled within two with about eight minutes left, but they just couldn't keep the intensity up. I missed the love-fest a page or two ago, but for the record, your love of college basketball and The Wire leads me to think we'll either be friends or so similar we can't stand to be in the same room for the next three years.Stringer Bell wrote:The missed open layup and corresponding Duke 3 when I believe it was like 49-45 with 4 minutes or so left was the dagger. Re: UVA Class of 2013
Someone who knows ACC basketball wanna give us a scouting report for next year? I assume Duke and UNC will be good, I'm sure GT will be alright, though I guess Favors may leave. Wake Forest is an anomaly to me, VT, others. I think Landesberg will be a senior though and I remember Bennet's recruiting being strong. My feeling is we'll be at least solid for our 3 years at UVa. Is that right?
Also, at least UVA's conference tournament didn't end in a 45 point effort. Honestly, Pitt and Dixon preach defense til the cows come home bu sometime you gotta score the damn ball.

Re: UVA Class of 2013
Landesberg might not be back next year. It's unclear how next year's team will be. In addition the Landesberg uncertainty, there's really no telling whether the current roster will progress or how the good recruiting class will pan out. I wouldn't be surprised by any finish from 1st to last in the ACC next year.joeshmo39 wrote:Someone who knows ACC basketball wanna give us a scouting report for next year?
