Of the four people I know with SAs, only one is in a major market (DC).
I was under the impression that it wasn't generally until 2L that firms viewed law students as worth the investment and close enough to graduation to make lucrative summer offers.

Re: UVA Class of 2013
Three years ago it was about 40% with summer firm jobs. Now I'd say it's under 10%. 5% maybe? Whether this is apocalyptic or not...I don't know. You gotta realize that useless 1Ls are probably the first to go when you're slashing a recruiting budget. And the total number of SA jobs has been roughly cut in half, so for 1L SA jobs to be cut into 1/4 or 1/8 is not at all surprising.Muckduck wrote:It is not uncommon though for the majority of 1Ls to have no SA positions right? This is not accurate. Most big firms DID hire 1Ls in the good economy. But it would be like 5 1Ls and 30+ 2Ls, or something like that.thickfreakness wrote: Most law firms never hired paid 1L SAs, even before ITE.

There is a ton of really good info about housing back through this thread, also there is a housing section of the admitted students site you may check out http://www.law.virginia.edu/offgrounds/offgrounds.htmA Swift wrote:What are you guys doing about housing? I found a roommate for next year on the UVA Facebook group, and there are plenty of people on there still looking.

On another note, does anyone know when scholarship offers began being made last March? I'm getting antsy.

My regular-old Dean's Scholarship was postmarked February 25, so I believe they've started the trickle of non-named scholarship offers.FeuerFrei wrote:Based on last year's thread it looks like March 25whattodo2008 wrote:On another note, does anyone know when scholarship offers began being made last March? Just to confirm, these smaller scholarships are only awarded after you submit your financial aid forms, correct?Kretzy wrote:My regular-old Dean's Scholarship was postmarked February 25, so I believe they've started the trickle of non-named scholarship offers.FeuerFrei wrote:Based on last year's thread it looks like March 25whattodo2008 wrote:On another note, does anyone know when scholarship offers began being made last March? Kretzy, who is that in your 'tar? When I saw Ryan Reynolds on the red carpet last night, I thought of you! haha.Kretzy wrote:My regular-old Dean's Scholarship was postmarked February 25, so I believe they've started the trickle of non-named scholarship offers.FeuerFrei wrote:Based on last year's thread it looks like March 25whattodo2008 wrote:On another note, does anyone know when scholarship offers began being made last March? When Ryan Reynolds presented one of the best picture noms I flipped out (because, apparently, I'm 7 years old).

And no, this was merit-only. I haven't filled out UVA's forms online (though my NeedAccess and FAFSA are done). Most of the scholarships they've handed out thus far are 75,000+, so I think they're at least beginning the process.astro1819 wrote:Just to confirm, these smaller scholarships are only awarded after you submit your financial aid forms, correct?Kretzy wrote:My regular-old Dean's Scholarship was postmarked February 25, so I believe they've started the trickle of non-named scholarship offers.FeuerFrei wrote:Based on last year's thread it looks like March 25whattodo2008 wrote:On another note, does anyone know when scholarship offers began being made last March? How intense are RA jobs over the summer and how much do they generally pay? is it just like a 9-5? Are they paid by the hour or is there a set amount for the summer?

Have you guys noticed that this thread DOMINATES all the other class of 2013 threads? This has 80 pages while most other schools have less than 10. Why does UVa have such a strong showing on TLS? Is it because it's just that awesome?

You're doing quite well compared to the class of 2012 thread. It was only at page 31 around this time: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... &start=750Doritos wrote:Have you guys noticed that this thread DOMINATES all the other class of 2013 threads? Yeah, I just need to keep saying things that provoke this year's 1Ls to lay more smackdown on me That racks up the pages quite quickly.
Maybe we can talk about how awesome it will be to go to a school with a great Lax and Soccer program! (Perfect since my UG has a nationally ranked FB and BBall team already)

Re: UVA Class of 2013
I'm guessing part of it is due to ED making us by far the dominant group here (next biggest group is Mich, and they're less than half our size), another part is the UVA law students popping in to let us know what's up, and the last part is because UVA is awesome.Doritos wrote:Have you guys noticed that this thread DOMINATES all the other class of 2013 threads?
