I took a quick look and it appears there isn't one of these yet, so I guess I will start one! Dean Pless you won me over! I will be practicing softball all summer (I know I am a gunner

)
So who else will be attending?

I am deciding between UIUC and UCLA. (with Minnesota a distant third choice). Have you been to UIUC yet? I live in Honolulu so I am unable to travel to these schools to get a look at them. I am relying on second hand info to evaluate them. Is the campus nice? Does the town seem safe and nice?

I have had a chance to visit the school and I liked it. UIUC is a big campus but seems to be centralized and not very spread out. As for Urbana/Champaign, the town is definitely safe. It has a nice midwest feel with plenty of college town locales. The law building is nice but really nothing special. I was able to have a meeting with Dean Pless who really sold the place for me. I guess what you should consider is where you want to practice. UIUC is respected in the midwest but I would not rely on it to get you out to the West Coast just like I wouldn't rely on UCLA to get you a job in Chicago.

Pretty sure I'll be at UIUC, but I still have a couple visits to do.
Anyone looking for a roommate?

Anyone else excited about Illinois moving up to 21 in the rankings? We will be in the T20 next year for sure. I am really glad I took the generous scholly they offered!

Not going back to Illinois for law school, but went there as an undergrad. My recommendations for apartments are definitely not Campus Property Management (They do a very poor job of maintaining their properties & undergrads trash them), and that Roland is often the most or one of the most well respected & well run companies. Those are kinda the two ends of the spectrum, lots of other stuff in between. And even if it looks like a new building don't be fooled by CPM.

Withdrew from all my other accepts, UIUC is going to be it unless I get in elsewhere between now and the deposit deadline.

My wife and I have both sent in our first deposits. We should be able to have the next $1,000 saved up by the beginning of May to make the second deposit. I think we're both pretty stoked.

Good luck all good schools. I was on the Cornell waitlist but I withdrew because I did not want to deal with the craziness of their admissions office this year. I lurk on a couple of Cornell threads and it looks like some early decision people are pretty pissed about the whole process.
Dean Pless really impressed me with how forthcoming he was about the entire process. If you go for a visit be sure to have a sit down with him. He really convinced me on UIUC.

I'm looking with someone else at The Village. I visited The Village at ASD and it seems a great value for money.

Wow those places look nice. Are you planning on driving to school? I haven't read anything yet about finding parking near the law building

A word to the wise--if you haven't started your apartment hunt in Champaign by now, jump on it like gangbusters. The complex I leased at just filled like four spots in the last week, and I'm told the best places fill up by early May.

The Village has it's own shuttle that runs to and from the law school. Not having to drive/park FTW.

I completely agree with this. I realized pretty quickly that Illinois was where I wanted to end up, I knew I wanted a single apartment, and many places I looked had already filled up. This was back in March (late march, but still...). Anyway, I found a 1 bedroom + study (So, two bedroom, but I'm using one as a study) about 1.5 miles from the law building and about .5 miles from Green Street and downtown for 765/month. I'm very happy with it, but I know that I wouldn't have found what I was looking for had I started looking much later than I did.

I signed a lease at The Village and got a pretty sweet discount - $475/month for a two bedroom with all utilities except electric (normally $575/month). I'm still looking for a roommate if anyone's interested.

For real? How'd you manage that big discount? And the heat is electric so it'll be pretty expensive. That's why I'm thinking of opting for a 3 bedroom.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
