Long beach and orange are farther than I would ever commute. I know one or two people who commute that far, but they didn't do so until their third year. Certainly, during your first year, I think it would be a BAD idea. That 45-55 miles will seem like a million when you're sitting in traffic in a fwy that has essentially turned into a parking lot. The people I know who commute that far have to wait until off-times to make the trip and, here, that means not between the hours of 6:30 am and 7:30 to 8:00 pm. Even after those hours, you might hit some accidents and/or normal congestion. I'm sure someone will post after me and contend that it can be doable if you do x or y, etc. Therefore, I'm going to preemptively answer that of course (almost) anything is doable, but do you really need to place yourself in a less-than-advantageous position when law school will be challenging enough even under the best circumstances?

It is possible, your second and third years, to get T/Th MWF schedules. However, during your first year, your schedule will be arranged for you and you will definitely have a 5 day/week schedule.

Im finding lots of apartments I like, however the ones in good locations are bit spendy. I've found several I absolutely love but they are in long beach, and in Orange. Mapquest puts it at 45-55 miles. Is this way to far of a commute to save $400 a month on rent?

Also, is it possible to get a schedule with classes only on mon/wed/fri or only on T/TH? This was easy in undergrade but not sure about Law School.

Thanks
Way too far man...gonna be spending three hours a day or more commuting. Add that to the time at school and you might have a melt down. Especially for the time leading up to finals. I spend somewhere between 12-16 hours at school these days and cannot imagine having to drag through a rough drive home only to get up to do it again.

Your first year schedule will be given to you, and you don't have any choice in the matter. Once you get beyond first year you can dictate your own schedule.

I live in marina del rey and honestly haven't heard of anyone living farther south than me. So I wouldn't look at cities south of Marina Del Rey/Santa Monica. From where I am your talking anywhere btw 30-55 minutes (normally about 40 mins). Usually the cheapest apartments that are close to campus will be found in calabasas...

Bank of America.

They have BoA ATMs in the Pepperdine Law cafeteria, in the Campus Store, and at the bottom of the hill. I'm probably forgetting one or two as well.

Anyone know when we get schedules and book lists? I'd like to order books as soon as I can to avoid being gouged for new books at the store. Just signed up for the free Amazon Prime, so even if I have to order at orientation, it's only two day shipping.

I thought I heard somewhere that we will hear our class schedule's by the end of July. I think I heard that from admissions, one of the times I called them.

Anyone living Archstone Calabasas or Malibu canyon?

Or Hows the commute from Santa Monica in the morning for a 1L?

I almost did this past year.

If you do live there, make sure you get in on the second floor. Also, with Archstone, some of the units have the old kitchen (1980s) make sure you do not get one of these, or stipulate a remodel as a condition of signing the lease, and add an addendum making sure this is in the contract.

Typically, living in Calabasas is a faster commute unless Las Virgines is shut down (rock slides, car wreck, hippies protesting), then its an hour.

Although PCH from Santa Monica moves faster, many more lights, and the CHP loves that road.
