Regents? No, you can't. They gave names of rental places though.ValiantVic wrote:
Did they say you could buy some of the apartments pre-furnished? That would be awesome.
New Grad residence was pretty crappy compared to Regents, but it's furnished. I think the tour guide said it was like $7100 for 9 months (can't live there during summer). That's almost $800 a month. Regents 1 bedrooms are $1100 a month or $1400-$1500 for a two-bedroom.
Also, my big beef with New Grad was the shared kitchen.

Thanks so much for the thorough answer! Reassuring to hear about the job prospects. The biggest thing Chicago's got going for it in my mind is the tiny class size, which helps both job placement and faculty interaction, so I'm glad those two turned out to be true.johnstuartmill wrote:Yes!parker09 wrote:Can anyone give any details on how ASW went?
Chicago sounds like a "love it or hate it" place, honestly, which is why I really think I missed out by not visiting, ugh. My impression, from hearing a lot of other people's impressions on TLS, is that while the student body isn't as antisocial and competitive as reputation would lead you to believe, it is at least a little more intense/intellectual/charmingly nerdy, which both the students and faculty kind of take pride in -- not a bad thing, mind you, but certainly a "not everyone fits in here" thing. Any thoughts?
Also, thanks to ChaotiCait for the photos -- it's great to see the inside of the law school building, and regents! Regents looks pretty nice on the inside (well, once it's furnished, and the walls are painted...) but sure is hideous on the outside.

As a native Chicagoan, I recommend Lou Malnati's for deep dish pizza... I love deep dish and even I was disappointed with Gino's East.

Yeah thats what I thought too, but it was also a cloudy day so it probably looks dingier than it really it. The inside is really nice though.parker09 wrote:Also, thanks to ChaotiCait for the photos -- it's great to see the inside of the law school building, and regents! Thanks for all the great pictures. I took my camera hoping to take pretty much this same set of photos. Instead all I have is a couple I took with my cell phone and ONE of the courtroom (the most unimpressive of all of the room I was in this weekend).ChaotiCait wrote:Try this one, I may have just been retarded

And I guess I am the only one who thought Gino's was pretty good. I guess that could be because it was kind of my first experience with the city's pizza.
Overall, I cannot wait to start school now. This weekend went really well.

I am way too excited now. I'm already picking out my winter boots instead of doing homework. I also need to find a roommate, but all the people I talked to a lot at ASW are either deferring of want to live in downtown. I'm looking to live in a regents 2BR.

Spending 5 minutes on that site shows me how unprepared I am for Chicago's winters... I think I'm in for an interesting three years.

Miami. From what I hear, Chicago may be just a tiny bit colder than what I'm used to. Although there were reports of snow near my house this winter, so you never knowcranberry wrote:summer where are you from?

I might be biased, but I love snow on the ground. I'd never want to have a Christmas without it.summerschooled wrote:Spending 5 minutes on that site shows me how unprepared I am for Chicago's winters... I think I'm in for an interesting three years.

I'm from Miami too! Chicago winters are intimidating, but if we survived our winter this year we should be ok... My car had a little bit of frost on it one morningsummerschooled wrote:Miami. Haha, I know how to deal with hurricanes and alligators, but I had no idea how to clear the frost off my windshield. I do like snow, though, so I'm hoping I'll be okay -- I'll just need to buy a whole new "winter wardrobe"GCB wrote:I'm from Miami too! That's so funny, I chose almost the exact same ones! http://www.sierratradingpost.com/Produc ... essed=trueChaotiCait wrote:Awww, I love the button downs at Express.....thorntll wrote:On the subject of fashion.... http://abovethelaw.com/2010/04/fashion- ... the+Law%29

I also love Express buttondowns, and that article pissed me off, especially this part:
A) I love how she just assumes any given partner will be a man. Vom.LEGALLY FABULOUS: “Looking sexy in a law firm is disrespectful” – Mary Nicolau. Absolutely. No one should be able to see your cleavage and your skirt or dress should be knee-length and not too tight. The partner you’re working for is someone’s husband/father/boyfriend. Show some respect.
B) Are we back in the 1950's, where if a man can't control his baser instincts, it's the woman's fault for enticing him? If a man is mature enough to be a partner, then he should be mature enough not to get a boner every time a woman walks by wearing -- gasp! -- red shoes.

Did you guys see the new rankings?! 1. Yale, 2. Harvard, 3. Stanford, 4. Columbia, 5. CHICAGO!, 6. NYU, 7. Berkeley and Penn.
I know, rankings don't mean that much. If Chicago had gone down in the rankings, I'd be all, "Only asshats read USNWR." But whatever, my first two choices were NYU and Berkeley, and I got rejected from both (well, NYU is going to reject me). The law school gods work in mysterious ways.
