So far it's going really, really well. I kind of fell in love with Iowa City in just one day.

I really like it so far. It seems like everything is within a 10 minute drive of anywhere in town. We stopped at the Pioneer Co-Op (grocery store) and at a sushi restaurant and were happy with the quality of food at both.mshflyer wrote:for anyone who moved in on the 1st, how did moving go? sorry, just had to call this guy outtheghostofDrewTate wrote:Relax on the student tickets. You'll get them. Back in the old days when I went there, LS started a week or two before UG and I think two weeks before the first football game. You just go over to the ticket office on the first Monday of the first week when LS has the intro to legal skills class and buy your tickets then. That way, you don't have to worry about them getting lost or stolen in the mail. The ticket office isn't far from the LS.
Ever since they moved the student section, it has been about half empty for nearly every game, including during our sick run last year. It's a shame, but it means you should have no problem scoring tickets. Don't sweat it.

I should be settled in by late tomorrow morning. After that, I'm happy to help move stuff. PM me if you need an extra set of hands.

Moved in the first and finally got internet today. Went to Jessup Hall for the ID card yesterday - pretty quick and painless, and got the books today (around $500, not including some packets and the Intro book). Pretty much all moved in - heading to Chicago for a few days either tomorrow or the day after. Anyone up for some drinks?Slimpee wrote:Have you guys gotten books and stuff? How about ID cards?

I checked Amazon today - most of the used books wouldn't ship until after classes started, which sucks.traehekat wrote:God I am seriously torn on whether to get new books or old books.Jerome wrote:Moved in the first and finally got internet today. My fiance and I will be at the Blue Moose Taphouse at 8ish tonight. I'll be the bearded guy in a white shirt with blue stripes, probably drinking whiskey and beer.

Re: IOWA 2013
I just got the orientation books today (including the Black's Law Dictionary it was about $100).
The ID card was, as Jerome said, a very easy procedure. Go to the basement of Jessup hall where you'll fill out a very small form, get your picture taken and have your ID card in less than 10 minutes. You can then use the ID the next day to buy your books. I'm torn about buying the books for the semester now or during orientation. Any thoughts on that? As for the new v. used book issue I firmly believe that getting new books is the way to go. The used books for the most part are ridiculously overused and will hinder instead of help you in the long run.

Jaskat: id wait (i thought they told us to in case of section switching?). But I don't mind used books. I prefer them most of the time. I just got here, and decided to hold off on textbooks.
Sucks I missed (will miss) drinks with yall. Blah.

Are they readily available at the bookstore? Can I just pick 'em up next week when I get there?jaskat wrote:I just got the orientation books today (including the Black's Law Dictionary it was about $100).
Anyone know what the deal is w/ the new rec center? Do we have to pay a surcharge or is it built in to our fees? I stopped in last weekend and it looks pretty sweet!

Oh damn, thanks for the heads up. I'll probably end up going with new ones, at least for this semester, and just see how I use them.Jerome wrote:I checked Amazon today - most of the used books wouldn't ship until after classes started, which sucks.traehekat wrote:God I am seriously torn on whether to get new books or old books.Jerome wrote:Moved in the first and finally got internet today. If you're an enrolled student at the university the rec center is free.Slimpee wrote:Are they readily available at the bookstore? Can I just pick 'em up next week when I get there?jaskat wrote:I just got the orientation books today (including the Black's Law Dictionary it was about $100).

You can always return the books as long as you have the receipt and they're not out of the plastic wrap. If you absolutely must start reading Foundations of Property Law the moment you have it, maybe you should wait.Yacht_Party wrote:Jaskat: id wait (i thought they told us to in case of section switching?). Re: IOWA 2013
Just purchased my books for $600. I didn't buy the recommended/optional ones.
Also, it was cool meeting the other TLSers last night. We should have another meetup before orientation begins.

I'll probably be moving in Mon. and be there Mon. and Tues. night before going to Chicago. I'll be coming back next Sat. so I can meet any of those nights. Anyone down?JOThompson wrote:Just purchased my books for $600. I didn't buy the recommended/optional ones.
