Awesome, thanks
How does the ID/Debit/Credit card thing work? Is it a prepaid deal?

Dealing with Mediacom is complete and total hell, but they've got a monopoly.
a cool mediacom promotion from my phone conversation if anyone still wants to take advantage of it: College Intro high-speed internet, $19.95/month for 10 months... Only a 10-mo contract. Same deal with no contract is $29.95 but who needs that...Anyway, that's very low. I'm sort of an existing customer (inactive currently) but if you're not, it still wouldn't hurt to call and ask if you can get it. PS - after 10 months it goes to the normal rate of $44.95 - aka time to disconnect/bargain with them.
I believe that the $20/month thing only works if you also get cable and/or landline phone service. RE Quest: they only offer DSL, so its the same price, if not more expensive (when you consider the added cost of a landline that you probably won't use) than Mediacom, but much slower speeds. I loathe Mediacom, but its really the only decent option out there. I have their service now and the speed is good, but outages inexcusably frequent.

I am DEFINITELY down for some football/bball. I haven't been exercising for the past two weeks and I need to.
How about we get a few games going the week before orientation? Is the rec center open yet?

Count me in. Rec center opens Aug. 1st, but you can go to the Field House if you're in town now.

If you purchase things using your ID card, it works as a credit card, as the charge will go to your U-Bill.

I'm moving in on the 12th (just got back to the States, and I still have a wedding to go to and that whole seeing friends and family that I haven't been able to do in two years thing).
Also, section 1 FTW!

Still nobody else in section 8? I am pretty surprised at the significant percentage of our class that's on TLS though.

We might be living really close together. I'm in a house on Myrtle within a quarter-mile of the law school or so. I figure we'll be popular come tailgating time...

To those who are renting houses, how did you go about doing it? I'm getting married next summer, and my fiancee insists on bringing our 2 (or 3) medium/large sized dogs out to Iowa with her when she moves in with me next summer. Figured I would have to rent a house with a fenced yard to accommodate that. Did you guys go through a real-estate agency or did you just search around on your own?

I just searched around on my own. Started with Craigslist and went from there.
The good news for you is that a lot of rentals in Iowa City are pet-friendly. That's not the case in a lot of markets.

Anyone play tennis? I'm interested in doing the club team there so I figured I'd pass along the website to anyone else interested.
--LinkRemoved--
They have a traveling team too, which there is a tryout for early in semester.

Just called the UI Athletics Ticketing office to try and get season tickets for football. They said they were sold out. Can anyone else confirm? I thought they would have some tickets reserved for incoming students. If they really are sold out, does anyone know of another way to get tickets?

Did you say that you were an incoming student? If you did, then they really are sold out. When I got mine, they were sold out for everyone but incoming students. The only other way to get tickets is to ask around for each game. I know that I, for one, will not be using my student ticket for the Wisconsin game. My dad is coming down so we bought two tickets together outside of the student section, so I would be willing to sell you my ticket for that game. Beware, though, you will most likely have to pay more total than you would have for the regular season ticket in order to get to all of the games.
