I've been gone for awhile, but I see we're planning another meetup. I'll be in town the week before and would love to meet up again. Maybe I won't have to bail early like I did last time.

Ok I have a living situation question. I am torn between two spots in Austin and dont know what to do. There is a house about 1.5 miles away from campus that is nice and about 1500 sq feet. I am also looking at a place at The Triangle that is about 1300 sq feet and a little less money (2.5 miles away). Do you think the amenities and social aspect are worth living at The Triangle, or do you think a house that would be a bit more quiet, bigger, and closer to the school is a better idea (keep in mind I will get a parking pass for San Jacinto either way)? I really don't care at all, so any insight will help. At the house I will be spending about 200 more (including utilities and everything) vs. at the apartment (everything). At the house I will have a "study" (just an extra room that will be basically mine to use whenever I want). I'm not sure what I want to do. Thoughts?

I'm trying to decide if I want to cancel my June LSAT and try for attempt #3 in October, because I'm eyeing Texas with scholarship money.

I was PTing around 175-176 very consistently before both this and the February LSAT, but I got a 169 in February and have no idea what I'll get this time (I expect 165-173).

I have a 3.83 undergrad GPA from UT Austin and will be doing a very good master's degree program starting this fall before I apply to law school.

...Can anyone tell me from their experiences how my scholarship situation would look if I were to apply to UT right now or had applied for this cycle? I'm having a hard time telling if I should roll the dice on letting the June LSAT come in, or if I should cancel, and whether I should do try #3 in October (in the midst of my MA program).

This year, UT had a GPA/LSAT floor for scholarships of about 3.6/167-8, so you would definitely fit the criteria if they do that again, for maybe half tuition or a little more? UT also has a scholarship matching program, and with your GPA you may get some money from similarly ranked schools. I got about a half scholarship through the matching program when I was offered nothing in the first place, and I am pretty convinced it was due to my offer from SMU.

And as for the LSAT, it sounds like you shouldn't cancel. You could be giving up a 173 for all you know, and if you get a 165, most schools will look at the higher score anyway. Your numbers are solid for UT as they currently stand, and if you get a 170+, you may very well get a full tuition scholarship.

Living Situation:

I'd rent the house instead of the Triangle. I visited the Triangle and read the reviews. Lots of undergrads live there and it gets quite noisy. That would bother me on a regular basis. If you're ok with that, then go with the Triangle since it is expesive but less that the house.

My numbers were almost identical to yours, and I had an initial scholarship offer from UT, and they upped it nicely through the scholarship matching program. I would recommend applying to several peer schools, especially UCLA, Vandy and WUSTL, even if you may not be so interested in attending. I had more generous first offers from each of these than UT, which I think really helped when it came time to make the scholarship matching request.

Thanks guys, that really helped. It sounds like it might be worth keeping what is likely a lower LSAT (165-169) just for the chance it's 170+.

There are definitely people without a 175 who got full-tuition/very close to full tuition (not a full ride, I suppose) on LSN, and a few of them are on this thread. I see plenty of 172s and 171s, so that is from where I was making my recommendation, but who knows how they're going to do scholarships next year? *shrug*

Well, considering I don't know the donor, I can't really send a card, which is why I am asking. We weren't told, and I just wanted to make sure that I didn't miss some e-mail or anything. If I knew, I would have sent it.

So, anyone with scholarships know something that I missed?

yes, you have to do this. it's not a huge deal. financial aid will email you a scholarship notification letter, and you write the thank you letter, sign it, and put one copy in the mail and drop off another copy at the financial aid office.

i got the lulz + a lot of fear of not getting a permit.

im not a biker and im not big on walking far distances in Texas heat so hopefully i can get lucky and score a SJG parking pass haha..
