I was very close to requesting a deposit reduction, but it felt tacky.Jericwithers wrote:Ever wonder why they don't let us pay that $500 with our loans or scholarship money? I'm bringing 500 in ones into the admissions office later today and my deposit's gonna make it rain.

I miss when that song was popular. Whenever I went out in Hollywood, someone would do this each time the song played. I bet they didn't know a recession was around the corner.thickfreakness wrote:I'm bringing 500 in ones into the admissions office later today and my deposit's gonna make it rain.

Haha @ both comments. They will probably tell you thick that they only accept checks or money orders, so be prepared to make it rain at a gas station (or wherever you go for a MO).rotflawl wrote:I miss when that song was popular. I'll be laying down the deposit as soon as I get all the paperwork together. But I was pretty much going to Duke the whole time...

I got a packet yesterday, and to my dismay it was pretty lame. No net id or anything, just a form for shots, a housing guide (not made by Duke), and another high-five from admissions.

This is going to save you all a lot of annoyance later, unless they changed the immunization policies:
1. GET ALL THE SHOTS ASAP IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY.
2. FILL OUT THE FORM AND MAIL IT IN.
3. THERE MAY OR MAY NOT BE AN INTERNET FORM THAT YOU ALSO NEED TO FILL OUT. MAKE SURE YOU DO IF IT IS STILL REQUIRED. OR THE IMMUNIZATION PEOPLE WILL ANNOY YOU A WHOLE LOT AROUND MID TO LATE NOVEMBER.

I thought the shots were for international people only, since if you went to an American UG you already got the shots?prezidentv8 wrote:DallasCowboy wrote:I got a packet yesterday, and to my dismay it was pretty lame. EDIT: I guess you still have to document the shorts for Duke though. Just another reason I should have stayed at Texas!

Yeah a bunch of us ended up having to get a booster. I had to get mine during exams because the health folks deactivated my ID card. So, I'm just saying...take care of this stuff before you get here, and double check yourself on the forms and whatnot.

Edit: Decided to change my mind at the last minute to go to Penn to be closer to my family. Will still be rooting for Duke, though.

Re: Duke Class of 2013
So, drove into town today and made my deposit in person. It was pretty awesome. It's finals time at Duke right now but the students really didn't look that freaked out or anything. Had dinner at the Federal tonight and it was spectacular. Tomorrow brings a whirlwind day of house-looking and job-interviewing for my wife.
That drive was so, so, so long.

Well I took a different route than I did last time so I drove about 10 hours, but I lost an hour due to the time zone switch so it was more like 11.Jericwithers wrote:From 'bama? Hahaha with glee? Surprising. Well it looks like my cycle is over: waitlist at NYU & Columbia and a rejection at Harvard all in the same day. See everyone in the fall 100% for sure now! Now that there is no longer a reason to be on TLS I find I cant leave though
lol

If folks are looking for housing, this may be worth checking out. I've made a few trips to durham to look at different places and think this is going to be the place. New complex with decent rent, good access to school. Amenities should be good too.
Spoke with them today and they assured me they would be open for business before summer start. Building openings for May are 1300, 1200, 100, 200, and 300, layout is on the site.

Sorry, I was pulling for you for Harvard. If it makes you feel better, imagine my situation of getting to wait 3 more months for my rejection to arrive

So the housing hunt has been successful (albeit incredibly tiring, with tons of driving). Applying somewhere tomorrow and then heading to campus to buy a bunch of Duke gear.

Re: Duke Class of 2013
Thanks, but at least you can tell your family that you were waitlisted at Harvard (although I do not envy the waiting ahead of you). Good luck and if you made it to the Harvard waitlist you are more than worthy of admission, the waitlist seems much smaller this year than last (maybe because I'm not on it lol)someones alt wrote:Jericwithers wrote:Well it looks like my cycle is over: waitlist at NYU & Columbia and a rejection at Harvard all in the same day. I love my Duke Law t-shirt that matches the hat perfectly. Did you opt for an apt or find a good home rental?thickfreakness wrote:So the housing hunt has been successful (albeit incredibly tiring, with tons of driving). Re: Duke Class of 2013
Picked up some stuff on campus today, bummed around Chapel Hill a little bit, and then had dinner at Tyler's Taproom in the American Tobacco District near downtown, which was quite awesome. Leaving town tomorrow morning but it's been a great trip. Found a nice townhouse to live in close to campus.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
