Have you considered actual guns? I believe Texas law permits you to defend yourself with deadly force against such offenses against nature, so long as they occur on a college campus...kalvano wrote:Dear gunners:
I was initially disappointed in my 1L year, in that there were no gunners in section 1. I thought I was missing out on one of the essential law school experiences. I now see the error of my ways. Roughly 7 milliseconds after the both of you opened your mouths in class today, I had an almost irrepressible urge to hurl myself out the window behind me and take my chances with the concrete library walkway below me. Should I lose that gamble, at the least the intense and grating pain cause by the sound of your voice would end.
So, as a cautionary note for the future, I would advise you to be careful and judicious. Everyone around the both of you wished nothing but death and destruction to rain down upon you. Further, everyone in the class is equipped with a book that is the approximate equal weight of a half-loaded cement truck. Any more repeat performances like today could indeed cause a hellacious rain of overpriced and supremely heavy textbooks to fall upon you.
Sincerely,
Kal V. Ano, Esq.

SMU's a private school, so I don't think the law applies.thearchduke wrote:Have you considered actual guns? I believe Texas law permits you to defend yourself with deadly force against such offenses against nature, so long as they occur on a college campus...kalvano wrote:Dear gunners:

You seem pretty well-informed about all of this stuff. Are these OCI callbacks going to a handful of people or are they being spread out?tinyone wrote:Alston bird, Morgan Lewis, akin gump and Gibson dunn made calls yesterday

It seems like there are two tiers: (1) HayBoo, JD, Fulbright, V&E, etc. and (2) good firms but that aren't necessarily top-5 in Dallas.nouseforaname123 wrote:You seem pretty well-informed about all of this stuff. IMHO people's bid lists split down these lines and so the offers/call-backs are going out accordingly. I don't know exact details but that would be my guess.

If you accepted a callback from them, they must be special.kalvano wrote:Anyone know anything special about Looper Reed?

I feel like this has been asked before, probably by me, but are all classes at SMU curved, even small ones?

Re: SMU Class of 2013/2014
I've heard that for classes under a certain size, less than 20 I think, the teacher has the option to curve. Though I'm not sure if that's actually true.

Re: SMU Class of 2013/2014
I asked my professors tonight. All classes are curved, but upper level courses and small classes have more "play". The curve isn't as drastic as it is 1L.

So I think one of the people in my Con Crim Pro class is a cop going PT. This should be AWESOME.

Re: SMU Class of 2013/2014
Has anyone heard back from these firms: (1) Munsch Hardt, (2) Figari, (3) Thompson Coe, (4) Looper Reed, (5) Bickel & Brewer, (6) Burford and Ryburn?
Also, has anyone gotten rejections from LLB&L
If you haven't heard back, but haven't gotten a rejection, do you think you're still in the running or that they're just slow in rejecting?

(4) sent an e-mail ding today.
Don't have anything on the other three.
LLB&L did their massive CB day last Friday. My guess is that if that somehow fails to yield enough SA's they'll do a second round of CB's.

So what does it mean to get silence? I've gotten no rejection emails / letters from firms that I know have sent them (like #4), but no CB's from them either.

I guess they either: (a) sent rejections via snail mail and we haven't gotten them, or (b) they like us, but not enough to give us a call-back right away, and are waiting to see what responses they get to their call-backs before either rejecting us or offering us a call-backkalvano wrote:So what does it mean to get silence? I know like JW has sent out some callbacks, but they aren't done making selections yet, so I would assume that would hold true for a bunch of the other firms as well.

Re: SMU Class of 2013/2014
Silence is worse than rejection. But if they've sent letters, we should have gotten them. Dallas to Dallas is a day. Anyway, didn't Looper do email rejects?tinyone wrote:I guess they either: (a) sent rejections via snail mail and we haven't gotten them, or (b) they like us, but not enough to give us a call-back right away, and are waiting to see what responses they get to their call-backs before either rejecting us or offering us a call-backkalvano wrote:So what does it mean to get silence? Is it bad form to email the recruiting person and ask for an update?

Re: SMU Class of 2013/2014
This. My career service lady told me "no news is no news." I don't think you can read into it one way or another. I think if you haven't gotten anything from a firm then they are working their way through their primary choices and keeping you in their pocket just in case they don't get their first picks. I've heard of people getting call backs close to a month after their screening interview and I've heard of dings via snail mail postmarked the day of the screening interview. It's just a mother f-ing crap shoot.tinyone wrote:I guess they either: (a) sent rejections via snail mail and we haven't gotten them, or (b) they like us, but not enough to give us a call-back right away, and are waiting to see what responses they get to their call-backs before either rejecting us or offering us a call-back
