Also, does anyone know what is up with Thompson Coe's salary? Associates only get $86k starting? Is there a bonus system or something that makes that salary worthwhile? I just don't understand how they can recruit at OCI with a salary that is half of most other firms starting salary...

Desperate times. 86k is better than 60k or less.

True. But that is just mean. All their clients are insurance companies, they're not hurting.

I have a friend that works for Thompson Coe Austin and he loves it since the paycheck is still pretty high but the hours are very reasonable. So I guess it's a better firm for the "work/life balance".

Also, insurance companies are starting to clamp down on the money they are paying out to defense firms. In Louisiana, insurance co. have went from paying per hour to paying a flat fee per case file. So, this might be 1% of the reason for the lower salary.

Plus, be happy about 86k. In LA, bigger firms only pay 95k or a tad higher as compared to 160k in Dallas.

Not that the Dallas firms mimic the Houston firms with their callback routines, but Weil, B&G, and LL are the only firms that I know have made calls in Houston. I don't know about AG or JD in Dallas. Anyone heard from H&B in Dallas?

I don't think any firms have really made CB's, from what I can tell.

I just want my rejection letter already so I can move on.

tfer - call the FA office. I think you have to accept loans for both semesters, then cancel the fall ones.

Yeah, there are at the very least six Dallas firms that have made at least one call.

Yup. You have to account for everything, not just when you worked. If you were unemployed, someone has to be able to verify that. And the lady said that they will call every name you put down to verify things.

Dear gunners:

I was initially disappointed in my 1L year, in that there were no gunners in section 1. I thought I was missing out on one of the essential law school experiences. I now see the error of my ways. Roughly 7 milliseconds after the both of you opened your mouths in class today, I had an almost irrepressible urge to hurl myself out the window behind me and take my chances with the concrete library walkway below me. Should I lose that gamble, at the least the intense and grating pain cause by the sound of your voice would end.

So, as a cautionary note for the future, I would advise you to be careful and judicious. Everyone around the both of you wished nothing but death and destruction to rain down upon you. Further, everyone in the class is equipped with a book that is the approximate equal weight of a half-loaded cement truck. Any more repeat performances like today could indeed cause a hellacious rain of overpriced and supremely heavy textbooks to fall upon you.

Sincerely,

Kal V. Ano, Esq.

So far, I've still managed to avoid gunners, probably because most of my classes are filled with the lazy asses from our section.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
