At this time, I can only promise that Manor, Trinity & Guadalupe garages will definitely have permits available. The rest of the garages, if they haven’t sold out during summer to fall &/or annual permit renewals & transfers, will have limited numbers of permits that will be sold first come, first served through the Parking Profiles. We won’t know the numbers available until 8/9/2010.

As far as waitlists are concerned, as of last fall, you did not have to withdraw. We had a guy in our section get into Penn and leave on the second day of class. If you are holding a guaranteed spot somewhere else, however, you do have to withdraw. The LOI just guarantees that you aren't still holding a seat elsewhere. This, of course, is only relevant if the wording hasn't changed.gmichaelbluth wrote:I think you can remain on another waitlist, but if you're double-deposited, they're going to find out in June, and you have to choose.mte84 wrote:Hey guys! I am most likely attending UT in the fall, but am also on some (non-existant) waitlist action... Also...I'll be in Austin for almost 2 months before school starts. I was thinking about picking up a server/bartender gig. I worked in a bar all thru college, tho I'd only consider staying if I could work one or two shifts a week.
Any thoughts on this? I have savings to get me thru fine, but won't really have anything to do. I'm not sure of Texas' rules on working during the school year

by all means work before school starts if you want to, but don't don't don't work during the semester. the only reason ANYONE should work during 1L is if they literally will starve otherwisePearalegal wrote:Also...I'll be in Austin for almost 2 months before school starts. It was in my garage...my roommate left the door open for a few minutes while she was taking out the trash and when she walked back out, both our bikes were gone. We live in a safe neighborhood and you can't open our garage from the outside so when shes home, I don't lock her up.Esc wrote:that. blows.Pearalegal wrote:SOMEONE STOLE MY BIKE

I'm really, really bummed. I had a spot all picked out for her in Austin. She was pale yellow with flowers and had a little bell. Her name was Sasha.
People suck.

Wow. I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully you will be able to find her. Austin actually has one of the highest crime rates for bike theft. I highly suggest registering your bike with UT and putting it on your renter's insurance if you have any. I had a bike stolen from me during my sophomore year of UG. It was downstairs in the garage of my apartment complex attached to a bike rack with a cable lock because our elevator was broke (yet again.) Fortunately it was a cheap bike from Target and I figured it wasn't worth the police effort. However, if it was my road bike...Pearalegal wrote:It was in my garage...my roommate left the door open for a few minutes while she was taking out the trash and when she walked back out, both our bikes were gone. I just filed a police report, and I think the guy was laughing at me when I described the flower pattern on the frame, seat and handles. I've had her since I started making serious money in UG my senior year.

that's awful, and crazy. how was someone able to run inside the garage when your roommate wasn't looking? Did she have to walk out of sight to take the trash out, leaving the bikes plainly visible from the street or something?UTaylor526 wrote:Wow. I am sorry to hear that. I've never had any problems in Austin, though I know some people who have. I personally would never, ever register a bike with the UT cops - one of the main benefits of a bike IMO is that it isn't registered or in the system, yay personal freedoms - but to some people it might be worth it for a marginally better chance of getting a bike back, if you ride an expensive road bike.

Yeah, I think she took a few loads out from all our different rooms, trying to be nice and at some point when she was in the house getting another bag, someone grabbed them. What are you gonna do, I guess. She feels bad, but we've all left that door open for a few minutes every so often, so its not like I can blame her. Just really bad luck that a crappy person saw them in between our cars and decided to be bold.Esc wrote: that's awful, and crazy. how was someone able to run inside the garage when your roommate wasn't looking? Haha, its just so sad to think of her off being sold or mutilated somewhere.

Is it worth it to actually sign up for one of these things if you get the V&E scholarship? I've read a couple posts, and it seems that these courses are not worth it at all, but would it look bad to turn down the V&E scholarship?yournamehere wrote:eLegal wrote:Just wondering how many people received the following email today . . .

I did Law Preview on the V&E Scholarship. It was nice to get some familiarity with basic concepts, but it is a lot of time to take up and a lot of information. If you have nothing better to do from 8-5 on a given day, then go for it.
No chance I would have paid actual money for it, though.
