Just got an email talking about how awesome NU is and listing the student groups. Don't really understand the value in joining the politically-oriented groups. Though I would like to join both Federalist Society and ACLU just to confuse future interviewers.
Did everyone get this e-mail? I did not (and it's not in my spam folder). Since I also did not get the first e-mail for admitted students, I'm a little paranoid that there's a problem with their e-mail program or that I'm not on the list. Before I inquire with NU, I just wonder if other people are also not receiving messages.
I didn't get an email about student groups but I did get one earlier today with "Instructions and Information on Financial Aid" so I guess I finally made it onto some sort of email list.
Also, I am 24.

I got the finaid email a couple weeks ago. Going to try to fill that stuff out this weekend, if I can do my taxes first.

Has anyone done needaccess yet? It never asks for 2009 data? Only 2010 estimates.

Since I'm only applying for Northwestern it seems to be tailored for Northwestern requested data only. There isn't a section for parental info either, yet post people have that too.

They really want me to write 2 essays to get financial aid? I'm ED and sub-3.0 at the T14; I'm just ecstatic they don't try to charge me extra tuition.

yes, but it depends on their pet policy... I have two dogs, one about 45lbs, and the other 18lbs, so I have to find a place which will allow both

My essay about merit aid is going to be "I have a 176, I can haz cheeseburger?"
Also from stalking the threads about NU last years, the whole need based aid is a myth. Only people with great numbers got any aid.

I'm trying to keep my rent as low as possible. In streeterville that doesn't seem very likely. Even 2 BR are expensive when divided in two. I'm not sure how I feel about roommates.

true, but I think 1L year will be stressful enough with having to worry about a commute to class/library/gym

Your chzbrgr is going to Streeterville.
I assumed this was why WUSTL and NU and other schools say 'need plus merit' explicitly - so they can basically just do merit. And I'm okay with that; everybody who was admitted has a BA already.

Yea I'm pretty set on living in streeterville for 1L. I'm just coming to terms with having to pay 1000 a month for a small studio.
I'm looking for the cheapest place that isn't a rats nest.

Exactly. I really think only HYS give need aid. Everyone else seems to give fake need anyway. A couple say they get aid, but they also got merit. I want to see someone who barely gets into a school who gets significant need aid. I don't think they exist.

Is it at all plausible to sign a lease in April when I won't occupy until August? I've never done an apartment that early, but I'm hoping that some of the larger buildings will have enough planned vacancies or will be so used to NU students that it will happen.
My girlfriend and I are probably coming during ASW and will look around for places. I'm assuming nothing will be available to lease that we won't occupy for 4 months, but maybe we can see a similar unit and handle the lease over fax/phone.

I hope that is something they go over at the ASW. I'm nervous about the moving process, especially because my wife and I are going to have to look for her job from Florida. I don't see how we could move up there until we've found her employment, because I don't see how we could sign a lease when neither of us have jobs up there.
For those without a spouse, how are you going to go about signing the lease since you won't be working? Will you have to have someone cosign for you, or is there some sort of verification that you'll be receiving loans that they accept?

I sort of assumed that the loan would be sufficient income to get approved. I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but it must work.

Most places should allow you to show your financial aid award letter as proof of income.

Actually, I used my job offer letter to get my last apartment. So I should've thought of this.

i finished need access. it asks for 2009 data first, then asks you to give 2010 estimates.
There is a place for parent information as well, and it is required even if you are independent. If I remember correctly, a lot of the forms are dynamic in that they don't show up until you need to fill them out. Need Access was a pain because even though I'm 27 I still had to fill out my mom's info because she was the most recent one to claim me as a dependent.
