there is a metrorail stop literally a few steps away and apparently 15 min is the typical commute (on local roads)

do i have a winner? or are there negatives that i should know about?

it seems decent and the review had a pretty unbiased tone. it has positives and negatives just like any other place i would imagine. if you dont mind the commute then i say go for it (and if the pricing works for you of course).

I was told that "Your summer garage contract will automatically come up for fall renewal." I assume that to mean having a SJG pass during summer will put me on the auto-renewal list for fall. Worst case, I just donated a hundred dollars to UT. Best case, I will enter the law school building sweat-free and on time.

I was told that if you bought a garage pass, you had a guaranteed spot (for the $600 permit). For the commuter permit or whatever (the longhorn lots?), its was like $130 for the year without a guaranteed spot. The ones on sale now are for the summer, and end on 8/31, so that won't work for us.

Anyone with some experience wanna shed some light?

I don't have direct experience but know a couple of people who have done each. You pretty much have it down. The C-Lot is less expensive but you are not guaranteed anything. From what I know about the garage spots, you aren't guaranteed a specific spot (like R-34, etc.) but they don't outsell the passes so you should always have a spot. In most garages, I believe they restrict what levels you can park on (typically above 3) and save the bottom floors for the non-pass users.

IMHO, it really depends on how risk adverse you are and on personal preference. I have also had a friend that drove in to an area where a bus picked up and then just rode in on the bus to campus. She didn't pay anything for parking and made it in plenty of time because she alloted enough time in her travel plans.

I don't know anything personally besides looking at them...but you can find double the space for the same price, in the same general location. I would definitely look around before depositing, especially due to the reviews.

I think you can remain on another waitlist, but if you're double-deposited, they're going to find out in June, and you have to choose.

oh man that place is pricey, but it sure is convenient though!

i just signed a lease at midtown commons. roughly 800 a month for 1br/1ba, covered parking, and right at the crestview metrorail station.

I really, really hope this is false. I'm also riding a couple waitlists up here in the East and I don't know if those will be resolved before we have to submit the letter of intent.

By the way, when do we have to submit that letter?

And where can I get some solid info about whether I'll have to withdraw from the waitlists?

This isn't exactly solid info, but some postings from 2 years ago seem to confirm that you have to withdraw if you're enrolled at another school, but not if you're on another school's waitlist: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... =7&t=34523.

Dean Ingram responded to an inquiry about a second deposit on Freshlaw saying "The Law School does not require a second enrollment deposit. However, we do require a Letter of Intent (LOI) be submitted to reflect your commitment to attend the Law School and withdraw from any other schools. Your original admission letter has detailed information about both. The LOI will be sent by email June 1 and is due back to the admissions office by June 22. Additional information will be available in the next week or so on Freshlaw as well."

So we should have some solid info soon.

I'd never heard of "fixed gear" before I saw your post and googled it. What is the advantage there? Seems like it would suck not to be able to coast, but then again my bike knowledge is limited to getting from point A to point B without dying in a fiery crash.

One "advantage" is gaining hipster street cred.

Hmm, that is a legitimate concern. If I don't have a fixed-gear bike, can I compensate by riding a mountain bike in the city ironically?

The rest of the garages, if they haven’t sold out during summer to fall &/or annual permit renewals & transfers, will have limited numbers of permits that will be sold first come, first served through the Parking Profiles. We won’t know the numbers available until 8/9/2010.

Agggh I don't know. I would hate to spend an extra $130 on top of that $600 permit for the fall. But part of me realllly doesn't want to deal with those Longhorn Lots, or even risk it. I'm already melting here in Dallas, and its hotter in Austin!!
