On another note, I'll continue working full-time until I move to St. Louis in August. Are a lot of people quitting their jobs early so they have some time to take trips, etc., before law school? I'm kind of regretting not planning to do something before the fall semester begins.

I'm going to work through most of the summer, but I am going to stop early. I'll be using vacation time while i'm still employed to go on trips. Then when I quit early, I'm going to focus on some personal hobbies and self-improvement that I don't have enough time for while working (dance and learning chinese specifically).

but... I think I'm going to GW. 98%, because I fear commitment. I'm thinking I'll withdraw from WashU today. very hard, because it's beautiful and was generous and all of that jazz. I emailed Cardozo to make sure I got my travel stipend and they were very rude because I didn't submit my deposit... I guess they do that after they don't need to woo..woe... you anymore. Good to know.

I'll be working until mid to late July. I'll have about a month of vacation time saved up, so that will result in a lump sum payment, which will be nice. My lease is up July 30, so I'll move the last couple days of July to wherever I end up.

Probably not, but I'd like to. Since I'm pretty familiar with STL, I'm not sure if the benefit would be worth the plane ticket cost. I think my wife and I will either live in Clayton, Dogtown or a bit farther out (but not too far). I'd love to live within walking distance, but realize it probably won't happen. Biking distance is my next chioce, but I'm OK with a short drive.

Judging from craigslist, it wouldn't be significant in my mind, but you'd be looking at a two-Bd house for possibly the same price as a 2Bd condo closer to school. There really isn't too much room for rents to go lower when they are already cheap, but they are a bit lower. I think you can get to where you might call it significantly cheaper by doing a little leg work an being willing to drive 20 minutes, but it's probably not worth the savings.

If I get in, I'm living in the loop and getting rid of my car. I might look into i-go in case I need to do grocery shopping or something, but I'm going to try and live as cheap as I can. It's close enough to the train stop where I can travel downtown or to the CWE for going out, and I can walk to school. Otherwise, the loop seems to have everything I would need within walking distance.

I have enough savings where I won't have to do COL loans if I can cut expenses enough.

Also, I'm quitting my job at the end of June, moving out of my place, getting a monthly car rental, and taking a month-long road trip from FL to DC to Cali to Austin and back. I can't wait. My job sucks.

There's a roommate search form on the admitted students bulletin board, but I think it still says coming soon. Maybe they're waiting for the first housing day or after finals to post it?

Guys, on a different tangent... Do any of you think that doing the TLP will result in disadvantages RE: obtaining employment post-graduation?

I know that graduating from the program will create a host of different opportunities; but in terms of getting summer jobs, jobs after graduation, etc., the fact that you are on another continent while your classmates are busy networking would have to create some hurdles, right?

Good question. I had the same thoughts about doing a semester abroad, but the TLP involve even more time out of the states. Then again the TLP should open a lot more doors... I'd be interested in hearing from some current students on this.

I found my roommate via the Facebook group. Just posted something on the discussion board and a guy messaged me and we've gotten the ball rolling.

Someone in the FB group also just posted a roommate survey, since the one on WUSTL isn't up yet. I'd recommend giving that a try as well.

Where do you want to practice? That's an important consideration when looking at USC/UCLA. If not the west coast, then there is no reason to stay on their waitlists.

I would take Chicago and Columbia at sticker over WUSTL.

I personally picked WUSTL with 75k over Cornell at sticker. I don't see any reason to take Cornell at sticker over WUSTL with 114k, unless you REALLY want NYC.

Unless ND matches with scholly money, no reason to go there either.

Bottom line: WUSTL sounds like it is your best bet, unless CC comes through or you get a significantly scholly from one of the other places.

I fixed the list for you. But no, you aren't crazy for waiting to see if you're in somewhere else. It isn't like you've turned down the money already. Just seeing your options.

I'm thinking along similar lines. I'd take Columbia if it came through, but the other T14s that WLed me would have to offer me $ off of the WL to tempt me away. I'd go CC or else stick with WUSTL in the same situation. Like romo said, depends on where you wanna end up, too.

Part of the reason I'm so spread out is because my GF is applying to MBA programs.

She got an interview at UCLA which is why USC and UCLA are still on the list.
She's on the waitlist at Columbia.
She's in at ND.

So how should I narrow my list based on this (and desire to be in proximity of possible)?

Columbia (see if we both get in off of waitlist, but even if she didn't it'd be hard for me to pass up)
Chicago (would be hard to justify passing this up especially since i currently live in CHI)
ND (if they match wustl scholly and she goes to ND)
Cornell (if she gets columbia and I dont)
USC / UCLA (if she gets UCLA)

1) If i were just worrying about me, i'd get rid of everything except CC and WUSTL
2) It's not just me. So i'm keeping Cali options open in case she gets UCLA, and aggressively pursuing ND in case she attends there.

In either case it looks like I keep CC.
Special considerations add USC,UCLA [I'm hesitant to just keep one or the other because who knows what would happen]
Maybe I can get Cornell off the list then? Cornell at sticker over WUSTL seems meh.

So final list looks like:
WUSTL (in) - 114k
Columbia (WL)
Chicago (WL)
ND (WL) - will take if they bring me in off of WL and match WUSTL scholly
USC (WL) - only on my list in case she gets UCLA
UCLA (WL) - only on my list in case she gets UCLA
Cornell (withdraw) - can't seem to justify Cornell given wustl situation.

MBA is two years... have her move to STL and apply to WUSTL next year. They are ranked #19 in that as well.

How serious are things with this girl? They sound serious enough to warrant consideration of where she is at. Why didn't she apply to the Olin business school at WUSTL?

If she goes to ND and you get off the WL at Chicago, that would be doable. Chicago and South Bend aren't too far away.

Do you think a long distance relationship is manageable? If she went to ND and you went to WUSTL, would that be something you could manage?

If it were me, I'd tell the girl to come with me to WUSTL and she could work while I'm in LS. Then we could switch it up and she could do the MBA and I'd support her.
