Re: NYU Class of 2013
for those of you staying in NYU housing: what do you know about loan disbursal and rent? Do they just collect your rent right out of your loan when the money hits your account, or do you write checks? I have heard nothing from housing since getting my assignment and have no idea how this works.
Anyone?
Anyone?

Though I did not ask this question exactly, my conversation with fin. aid led me to believe they collect rent right out of our loan money.

Re: NYU Class of 2013
I would call them to confirm if I were you. They were pretty ominous about it: "If we don't get the confirmation by Aug. 4th, your place in the class will be released."
I wouldn't take chances.
To my knowledge, you can remain on waitlists.

Re: NYU Class of 2013
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what to do if I can't pay my tuition bill because my loans are pending? I accepted them a few weeks ago and my statement anticipates the subsidized/unsubsidized Staffords, but not the GradPlus loans, so it's asking me to pay the difference. I called the Bursar's office right now but the woman was not helpful in the least. Thanks so much if anyone can help me out with this! : )
P.S. Very excited to go to NYU and get to know everyone in a few weeks! If I wasn't across the country I would have done my best to go to a meet up.

Mine says this, too. I'm not worrying about it. (I'm a 2L.) So long as you filled out all the right forms for the loans, you should be fine.lessthanthree wrote:Hi everyone,

To be safe, you might check your account balance by logging into NYU Home, then Albert. It's usually more up-to-date than the Bursar's billing. My bill from the Bursar's says I owe them, but the balance through Albert says they owe me.

if you log into home.nyu.edu and click on the "academics" tag, you'll find a link to Albert. It contains all sorts of useful information about you.clintonius wrote:What is this Albert?

What is everyone doing for books? Anyone know when we get our book lists/section assignments etc., and do you think it will be in time to buy from places like Amazon or do we just have to resort to getting savaged by the bookstore?

Re: NYU Class of 2013
Did anyone else get this e-mail?
Seriously, WTF? They've "notified [my] dean's office regarding [my] noncompliance"? I even have proof they received it and the deadline's not for 10 days anyway. Please be advised that according to New York University Student Health Center
records, you have not complied with Public Health Law 2165 and/or 2167 and NYU
policy requiring proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella and completion
of the Meningitis Response Form.
We have notified your Dean's office regarding your noncompliance.
You will also be receiving a letter regarding the immunization information we
currently have on file.
Failure to provide this information will result in de-enrollment from classes
and the inability to move into residence halls if you are planning to live in
NYU Housing.
De-enrollment means you will be dropped from classes that you have registered
for, will no longer be enrolled in or able to attend classes AND you will be
excluded from entering campus buildings and your ID card may also be de-
activated.
You can download the required immunization form(s) at:
Measles, Mumps and Rubella
http://www.nyu.edu/shc/pdfs/student_imm ... record.pdf
Meningitis Response Form:
http://www.nyu.edu/shc/pdfs/meningitis_response.pdf
Deadline for submission of immunization information is August 15, 2010.
Please submit the required documentation to:
New York University Student Health Center
Immunization Record Services, Room 336
New York, New York 10003
Or by Fax at 212-443-1198.
If you have any questions or concerns please send an email to
health.requirements@nyu.edu or call 212-443-1000.
If you are a new student, you are also required to submit a self-reported
health history. If you have not received the health history form by mail, you
will not be able to download it and will need to obtain and submit this form
from the Student Health Center after you arrive. Submission of this form will
not affect your enrollment status.
WE ADVISE THAT YOU KEEP A COPY OF YOUR COMPLETED IMMUNIZATION FORM AND BRING IT
WITH YOU TO CAMPUS IN THE EVENT THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE RECEIPT OF
YOUR INFORMATION.
Best wishes for a healthy semester,
The Student Health Center

Re: NYU Class of 2013
me. i sent them an email.
what i know about the NYU administration so far:
1) if they forgot that they got your health forms, they threaten you
2) if they enroll you under the wrong name, it's somehow your fault, and you have to submit a boatload of paperwork and argue with them on the phone for hours, AND you still don't get an e-mail address that reflects your actual name.
3) the housing is dirty.
I can't wait.

I move into D'Ag on the 19th, but my flight doesn't land until 7 PM. Trying to figure out if I can check in at night or if I'll be sleeping on a park bench that night.

You can change your email address (and should do so) by going into NYU Home (home.nyu.edu), then Preferences (top left), then personal address or something.neimanmarxist wrote:me. i sent them an email.

Re: NYU Class of 2013
i'm aware of that . but my ID handle thing reflects this other name they invented for me, then refused to change.
it was also really annoying to gather a ton of paperwork and talk to them for hours about something that they should have been gracious enough to realize was their mistake, and fix.

Yeah, that sounds annoying. I had a bad experience with the health forms last year, but I've found all the administrative types we deal with as actual students really good.
As long as they changed your name in the system so that you'll show up on rosters and name tags properly, I wouldn't worry about the net ID. It's (mostly) just a login.

Also, I can't remember when we received our book assignments last year, but for my classes this year, the bookstore seems to have the list now. If you go to the bookstore's website and search for a book "by student," your books may show up as well.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

thanks that's really helpful .
didn't mean to grouse on NYU. I'm excited to go there. The aggressive e-mail re. health forms that are not due yet struck a nerve after hours of arguing about what my name is.

Re: NYU Class of 2013
They also accept proof of immunization from your undergrad institution, if that's easier for anyone currently without a primary care doctor... I went into the health center today and turned mine in and it was a piece of cake.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
