FWIW I talked to Dean Hoye about this and it was my impression that the opposite could also be true. My impression was that he really only felt compelled to give people more money when someone's situation was along the lines of "I really want to go to Duke, but ___ offer elsewhere is making it difficult for me to commit, if you can match it I'll come".
Basically, he said they didn't like money being the only reason someone would have to end up choosing another school.

That makes sense, and explains why people who write a 'why duke' get more money.

The guy is 33, but I wouldn't have guessed that. Butler worked hard to be where they are at, but the 25 game winning streak comes to an end tonight. I feel like I am rooting for 'the machine' against John Henry when I wear my Duke t-shirt though.

I'll laugh if Duke loses, but I'm still cheering for them.

Butler has taken down some serious contenders, so I give them props for that. Duke better not get 'David and Goliath' syndrome on me now.

I find it sad that you come here first to try out said bragging, and that you associate the efforts of others with your own accomplishments.
I eat gator for lunch, I hope you know. The sad part? It doesn't even taste good without buttery-ranch sauce.

I just figure that Alabama will recede back into irrelevancy soon enough that I won't even need to acknowledge the freak occurrence that your team used to slip out a victory with.
Can't we just settle this by which of our Universities has the best Law School?

I will direct all of my hate at McElroy, who ruined my high school homecoming as well as Tebow's farewell tour.

I guess I could live with that since we still beat UF.

I've never had to hate Alabama before, but half my family lives in Florida so we all have a lot of anger for the opposite side of the Gulf. Sorry.

Tebow was a great football player but he's dumb as a rock. McElroy was selected to interview for a Rhodes after graduating with a 4.0 in three years. Keep hatin'.

Here's hoping Timmy gets drafted by the Panthers. A) to get to watch him every Sunday. B) To see everybody else groan at the coverage.
This just made me very sad. Although I am glad I don't have to watch the Bucs and Fins on both channels, the thought of Panther action is worse. Maybe it will encourage me to study more. Plus, the Cowboys are on nationally 80% of the time, anyway.

Given the explicit preference for athletes in the Rhodes selection process (and the fact that it's BAMA - what other grade would a prof give McElroy), color me unimpressed (unless you're Myron Rolle - that guy was a bona fide freak). Dumb Tebow is credited, though.

So, I picked up golf as a hobby over the weekend (odds are in favor of me dropping it next weekend though). TCR is calling me crusty white, BTW. Any good courses around Duke?
Also, can any current students attest to the fact that Duke does not give additional financial aid/grants besides loans once they give you an award statement after enrolling? I just hate to think that the scholarship amount they give you includes all the money possible, including need.

I saw, and you also posted that you want to transfer to YHSB. We should gun together: I become top of the class at Duke and you leave for another school. Win win.

The Duke University Golf Course was named #2 on Travel and Leisure's list of the Top 10 Collegiate Golf Courses. It looks awesome and is reasonably priced, esp. for students. It looks like there are a few public courses around there, but non-affiliated-with-a-college public courses are generally goat ranches, so beware. I've been playing a lot recently and am seriously trying to improve my game (my goal is to break 100 by the time I graduate in May, and be shooting in the low 90s consistently by the time I start LS.

I'm still working on the goal of not hitting people on the driving range, hah! Is that the Washington Duke Inn? I could only find rates for RTP residents ($60?), but no kind of student rate or any kind of university club.
