I'm not buying that garbage for one second---when classes actually start I bet everyone is killing themselves studying. Everyone's trying to psyche us out into believing otherwise....

You're not going to find a top law school where students don't stress about grades. That said, UVA students are probably more relaxed than students at other schools are. I highly doubt that after months of softball, Thursday kegs, bar reviews, and students getting arrested at events like Foxfield, you will be unhappy with the environment here.

You probably heard a lot about the collegial environment here because your PAs, like all 2Ls, 3Ls, and even alums, have a vested interest in you continuing this tradition. It's what brought many of us to UVA Law, what hopefully attracted your class to this place, and how we hope UVA Law will continue to function (and be seen) in the coming years. While people certainly work hard (and while 'working hard' means something different from person to person), we're not lying when we say that this is a supportive, laid back environment. If you miss class (provided the c/o 2013 is similar to those who have gone before), you'll have notes e-mailed to you before you can ask for them. If you're struggling with a cold call, your neighbor will share notes/briefs. If you want to see what an outline looks like, your PAs will make sample ones available, and many examples can be found in the SBA's online outline bank. This isn't to say that you don't have to invest time in reading, studying, and thinking critically about the law, but you don't have to watch your back while you're doing it. If you think this sounds too good to be true, just be happy to hear that you're wrong. Welcome to UVA Law. I hope you'll have three great years here.

To be honest, when I initially visited UVA I had the same kind of first impression, I was discouraged by the "play hard" attitude everyone had. But that was only until I realized that I was only seeing part of it, and the whole truth was really "work hard, play hard", and that was when I fell in love with UVA. People take it easy not to the detriment of their studies, but in order to have full enjoyable lives that aren't consumed by classwork.

(I realize it's odd for someone who left to still be selling the school to folks, but I do miss it already.)

I am showing all loans dispersed but no money yet. I understand the Director of Financial Aid will be at the orientation event tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll get more information then.

Just my unsubsidized Stafford loan disbursed. Weird. Three different people with three different outcomes.

For me drinking takes the edge off the lurking suspicion that I just spent hours on some shit that is totally meaningless and skipped over the important part entirely.
