And theantiscalia, I'm sorry to hear you've changed your mind. Best of luck to you if you do end up at ND! Great school and I'm sure you'll enjoy it there.

this is some awesome input. thats what i was thinking as well. im visited dozo today, dug it. visiting washu on the 23rd. lets see how it goes, ill def keep u guys posted.romothesavior wrote:DeanBigBrother, here is how I see it... WUSTL gives you a better shot at a job (and a good paying one, at that), but less of a shot at getting to NYC. Cardozo will give you a much higher likelihood of NYC, but if you don't do well in your class, you are likely screwed in a big way.JCougar wrote:This is probably true. You guys have swung me over into the Cardozo camp. If it's for sure New York, Cardozo is probably better. It's really a situation of you can't go wrong either way, though. I just have a Midwest bias.najumobi wrote:lol....that sucks....i think cardozo's numbers for nlj and clerkships is ~20% while wustl's is at ~30%. i think lowered overall placement is acceptable considering you without a doubt want to work in nyc. i would probably take cardozo in your situation. it just seems like the barrier to gaining nyc employment would be lower coming out of cardozo.DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:the cardozo scholarship is guaranteed for the duration of my time there.
thanks for the input guys, the reaction seems mixed, not too reassuring lol.
So its really a high risk/high reward kind of thing if you go to 'Dozo. Although in this economy, just about every school will have some risk involved.

Wow I made my profile years ago as a sophomore on a whim and forgot that I had even made it. Tried to set up an account the other day to join in on the fun and it kept saying my email is already in use! Well after an email to the board admin lol I'm finally back. Just wanted to say my seat deposit is in and I'm pumped! Still waiting on some waitlists but seriously who can compete with WashU's prestige and generous scholarship opportunities? No one, that's who! Kinda wanted us to jump SC but maybe next year lol. I recently joined the facebook group as well. Let's roll.

Re: WUSTL Class of 2013
hey guys im pretty interested in wustl (im still in undergrad). the school sounds pretty damn amazing!
now, i am aware that st. louis big law firms don't like to hire wustl grads because they think that they will just work for a couple years and get the hell out of stl. I've lived in the los angeles area since the third grade. I moved there from St. Louis, and I REALLY REALLY wanna go back. im sorry, but la sucks ASS. will it be hard for me to secure a big law job in stl because im a "flight-risk?"
kinda off topic, but ive been wondering this for a long time. since stl is a secondary legal market, what are the average starting salaries at big-law firms? and mid-law firms? How high in your class do you have to be in to secure a job in big-law and mid-law? thanks in advance guys!

Re: WUSTL Class of 2013
Yes 3 new pages to read! Awesome!
I want to feel included too. So here I go:
Not a football fan. Not even a sports fan. It made undergrad pretty miserable (I was always conveniently busy on Saturdays so my friends couldn't keep teasing me). I used to fence, but that was the only sport I paid attention to, and the second I quit I stopped caring. Whoops...
I want to go back home. I didn't go to my state law school because I worked really hard in undergrad getting my GPA, and I surprised myself with my LSAT score, so I wanted to go to a 'better' school, and leave the state for awhile. Plus, only the T14s would have cost more than my home university. WUSTL costs me $20,000 less. Totally worth it.
Sorry about the travel reimbursements and scholarship negotiations guys. That really sucks. I'm a little nervous about this "over-deposited" thing.
And now I feel included, and I'm heading out for lunch.
(Sorry, I don't have any answers for you jonjung710.)

are you not waiting on any other school decisions or waitlists for higher ranked schools? that's good if that's the case. i'm 90% sure i'll be going to wustl, but i wish i could say that i'm 100% positive.panadera wrote:I want to go back home. I was on the Penn waitlist, and Vanderbilt waitlist. Vanderbilt hurt because I really wanted it and I was so sure I would get in with my numbers and background. But the second I got the waitlist notifications, I withdrew myself. I like certainty, and knowing where I'm going as opposed to waiting around. And the other higher ranked schools that I was accepted to were great opportunities for me, but not if I want to go back home. Even with scholarships at the other schools, it didn't make sense for me to spend more at a better school just to come home and have all that debt.najumobi wrote:are you not waiting on any other school decisions or waitlists for higher ranked schools? that's good if that's the case. i'm 90% sure i'll be going to wustl, but i wish i could say that i'm 100% positive.panadera wrote:I want to go back home. I absolutely want to be in the midwest, my family is here, my boyfriend, my connections are here. I can understand why it would be hard to pass up a higher ranked school if they admitted you in August if you don't want to end up in the area.
This is what I feel like sucks for all of you guys. You're on waitlists and still want that chance to end up somewhere else. That uncertainty is so hard!

Re: WUSTL Class of 2013
As far as being a flight risk: This is a perception that a lot of stl firms have of wustl grads because, frankly, most people at wustl are going to be looking for biglaw jobs. Lots of people trying to go to chicago, east coast, etc... so, they assume that if they haven't ever heard from you until you're a 3L that you're just using them as a back-up plan and will be gone as soon as you can land that chicago job. BUT, of course, all you need to do is establish yourself within the stl market as early as possible and prove that you're trying to make a connection there. Btw, this is all just a paraphrase of what some current students told me at the ASD--not just pulling out of my ass, as much as it may sound like it.jonjung710 wrote:hey guys im pretty interested in wustl (im still in undergrad). the school sounds pretty damn amazing!

Salaries / Jobs: Not exactly sure on this one. Maybe like 150 - 120k for private work, about half that for public? In 3 years, hopefully it wont matter where any of us graduate

Also, I didn't get anything about my negotiation yesterday, but that doesn't sound too promising

for 2008 wustl grads. top ~45% seemed to net either jobs paying at least 110k/yr or federal clerkships. 15% of those grads worked in public sector jobs that weren't federal clerkships. and i think new grads can expect to earn no more than 50k in the public sector.camstant wrote:Salaries / Jobs: Not exactly sure on this one. Massive amounts of info about this around here, but just choose the best school to fit your needs, do as well as you can, and market yourself. How much more can the world ask?

Re: WUSTL Class of 2013
well if cornell places me on the reserve list (to wait until late june) i will withdraw. though i think i would be waiting out for vandy through at least mid summer, just because i'm from the southeast and went to undergrad here, so going to vandy would be like doubling down on the connections i have in this region.panadera wrote:I was on the Penn waitlist, and Vanderbilt waitlist. Re: WUSTL Class of 2013
I just got an email...
"Thank you for making your first deposit and reserving your seat in our incoming class. We appreciate your continued interest in Washington U Law. As a reminder, if you let us know before May 1 that you will not be attending Washington U Law, your first deposit is refundable."
Is it just me, or does everybody else think this could be a "we gave you a really big scholarship, please withdrawal" email...
I know they're over their scholarship budget and over admitted... did anybody else get this?
$81k Scholarship

Other than them denying people for additional scholarship, what indication is there that they have over-admitted?

I'd say the over-deposited thing will correct itself after the second deposit. If it doesn't, it almost certainly will over the summer. I like WUSTL a lot, but I could be tempted away if my scholarship situation doesn't change and I get off of the right WL. A lot of people seem to be in the same position.JCougar wrote:Given that we know WUSTL's class is currently over-deposited, I really doubt they have any incentive to increase scholarships.
