How much did you get from WUSTL?DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:guys i just got into cardozo with a full scholarship. clearly it was a surprise (or i wouldn't be in this thread). this decision just got a lot tougher for me. my main goal is to work in NYC after law school. i was also born and raised in NYC, and was looking to stay, although i would take a 3 year sojourn for better career opportunities.
based on the pure numbers:
washu is #19, cardozo is #49 on us news.
washu is #24, cardozo is #30 on the NLJ250.
so all that considered what do you guys think?
In that case, WUSTL. Have you ever lived outside of New York for long? Sometimes being away from home can be good. WUSTL can definitely still get you a job there especially if you are from there.DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:$38,000 a year -- so the money really isnt an issue.
i apologize for not noting that earlier.

The Midwest is a great place to live. Try it out! Also, think about COL. It will be much cheaper in St. Louis.DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:yeah i went to boarding school in connecticut, college in ithaca, and worked a year in charlotte, north carolina, thats half of the appeal, i wanted to be home for an extended period of time, but i guess youre right, maybe i'll be able to focus better away from my fam and friends and the hustle and bustle of nyc.
I dunno about this... if NYC is your goal, then I think you could make a very compelling argument for why you should go to Cardozo. The ability to network and gain experience there is going to be stronger if you are already in the city. Also, while WUSTL can get you into NYC, you will need to have really good grades. Its not like its easy to do.JCougar wrote:The Midwest is a great place to live. Try it out! Also, think about COL. You might be right about the networking opportunities; however, the firms in NYC that require good grades from WUSTL are also going to require good, if not better grades, from Cardozo. No reason why you couldn't go to WUSTL and get summer internships back in NYC, even if it's at a midlaw firm. But your general point is valid. Cardozo would make it easier to do that. I'd just personally have trouble turning down a school with a reputation like WUSTL.romothesavior wrote:I dunno about this... if NYC is your goal, then I think you could make a very compelling argument for why you should go to Cardozo. is cardozo's scholly guaranteed for all 3 years? if not, go with wustl.DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:$38,000 a year -- so the money really isnt an issue.

yeah i figured we wouldn't move down in the rankings but i was hoping we would jump over usc. not that the rankings mean very much, but it would have been cool to see that happen.Stephanie13 wrote:I'm glad everyone is getting pumped for WUSTL this fall! Yeah, you've hit the crux of the matter here. Guaranteed money >>>>> an uncertain thing.najumobi wrote:is cardozo's scholly guaranteed for all 3 years? if not, go with wustl.DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:$38,000 a year -- so the money really isnt an issue.

Not to worry, we'll catch or beat USC next year. Unfortunately, that will be a result of the "TTT in decline" effect rather than substantial gains, but WUSTL's a mercenary school, "sharklike" in the words of flcath. We'll take whatever we can getnajumobi wrote:yeah i figured we wouldn't move down in the rankings but i was hoping we would jump over usc. not that the rankings mean very much, but it would have been cool to see that happen.Stephanie13 wrote:I'm glad everyone is getting pumped for WUSTL this fall! also, getting any closer to choosing where to go?
Yes agreed. And yea I'm pretty much set on WUSTL. I wish I had a large scholly offer from WUSTL to make it an even easier choice over SMU like you but alas that's not the case. Also the fact that I'm from Dallas makes choosing WUSTL over SMU more difficult emotionally-wise. Friends, family and history is all here. But honestly, I'm sick of Dallas. If anything I'd love to move to Austin but I imagine that'll be difficult from either school. So in the end, I think I'm set on WUSTL. I'd love a new location and the chance to break into a market that isn't near where I've lived all of my life. Also, when I visited, I found St. Louis to be quite charming. I never really notice how "new" Dallas is until I spend time in other older cities. I think it really imparts more charm on a city and gives it more variety and character.najumobi wrote:yeah i figured we wouldn't move down in the rankings but i was hoping we would jump over usc. not that the rankings mean very much, but it would have been cool to see that happen.Stephanie13 wrote:I'm glad everyone is getting pumped for WUSTL this fall! There really isn't a right or wrong answer here...DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:the cardozo scholarship is guaranteed for the duration of my time there.
thanks for the input guys, the reaction seems mixed, not too reassuring lol.
lol....that sucks....i think cardozo's numbers for nlj and clerkships is ~20% while wustl's is at ~30%. i think lowered overall placement is acceptable considering you without a doubt want to work in nyc. i would probably take cardozo in your situation. it just seems like the barrier to gaining nyc employment would be lower coming out of cardozo.DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:the cardozo scholarship is guaranteed for the duration of my time there.

This is probably true. You guys have swung me over into the Cardozo camp. If it's for sure New York, Cardozo is probably better. It's really a situation of you can't go wrong either way, though. I just have a Midwest bias.najumobi wrote:lol....that sucks....i think cardozo's numbers for nlj and clerkships is ~20% while wustl's is at ~30%. i think lowered overall placement is acceptable considering you without a doubt want to work in nyc. i would probably take cardozo in your situation. it just seems like the barrier to gaining nyc employment would be lower coming out of cardozo.DEANBIGBROTHERALMI-T wrote:the cardozo scholarship is guaranteed for the duration of my time there.

i'm not sure where i want to practice, but i know i absolutely do not want to practice in the northeast or northwestSTA0815 wrote:sup guys,
where (region/city) do you most of you wish/plan on practicing?
Not sure. Atlanta, Nashville, St. Louis, maybe NY or DC if I somehow end up high enough in the class to have a shot at one of the Vault firms. Looks like St. Louis is the most likely option, since I'm turning down Vandy and EmorySTA0815 wrote:sup guys,

DeanBigBrother, here is how I see it... WUSTL gives you a better shot at a job (and a good paying one, at that), but less of a shot at getting to NYC. Cardozo will give you a much higher likelihood of NYC, but if you don't do well in your class, you are likely screwed in a big way.JCougar wrote:This is probably true.
