Is the Kennedy School funded? Or would you be taking out loans.chutzpah wrote:I thought of a dozen snarky answers to this but here's the honest one: you're right. If its funded, just go. Law school will be here when you are done if you still want it.

Do not know yet. They release financial aid decisions on April 1. I don't think its worth it if I don't get any funding. Obviously the JD is more valuable for government work but Kennedy for free or close to free would be nearly impossible to turn down.Desert Fox wrote:Is the Kennedy School funded? Thanks! Yes, I got an e-mail with "Northwestern" and "Scholarship" in the subject line, and the award letter was sent as an attachment. I was really nervous that I wouldn't get any grant aid, and Northwestern is my top choice, so I'm grateful for the award.D-hops wrote:Congrats! I'm surprised there haven't been more scholarships posted yet, but my financial aid application was in by late Jan/early Feb, so maybe they're working on them in the order received.
Good luck to everyone waiting for news!

I also got scholarship notification today- seems like they're just working through them a few at a time. I was admitted mid-Feb & literally submitted my fin aid the night before the deadline so I don't necessarily think they're awarding in order

So just to be sure, the e-mails that went out said $$ over 3 years? All I ever got was an e-mail with a spreadsheet which broke down my expenses and said how much my finaid $$ was just for the summer semester. Maybe it's an AJD thing, but I haven't gotten an e-mail regarding scholarships for the entire degree.

While I'm disappointed that I wasn't offered any financial aid this round, I am very impressed by the promptness of their notifications. Another win for Northwestern

Yeah, I kinda thought I'd get something in the $60-$90k range. I have good WE, too, so I figured NU was my best bet for signifigant $$ in the T14.Desert Fox wrote:How did you not get any? Your numbers are good.scribelaw wrote:+1.chutzpah wrote:just got the "sorry we have no money left" email. boo

Ugh. Getting shut out by Northwestern seriously just ruined my day.
I was beginning to think that Northwestern with a nice scholly -- maybe in the $75,000 to $90,000 range -- is a better option than CCN.

Would you put down a deposit elsewhere and stay in the running for the second round? NU offered quite a few really big scholarships so once people turn those down there could be a considerable amount of money left. I hope.scribelaw wrote:Ugh. I'm going to stay in the running at NU and see what happens. But I'm honestly not too hopeful.chutzpah wrote:Would you put down a deposit elsewhere and stay in the running for the second round? Deposits at CCN aren't due until later, it's May 3 or something at NYU, so I hopefully won't have to double deposit.

NU blowing it's load early this cycle? Or just not even trying to steal 174/3.6's away from CCN?

It seems a little like the people with those sort of scores who did not get $$s are two-time LSAT takers. Maybe that factors in at this stage?rayiner wrote:NU blowing it's load early this cycle? Or just not even trying to steal 174/3.6's away from CCN?
Hard to see many people taking NU over NYU both at sticker though without some idiosyncratic reason for for wanting NU.
Congrats to everyone who got some money. To the rest, enjoy NYU lol

Re: Northwestern Law Class of 2013
Well, I'm hoping that NU tries to steal me away from CLS. It would be hard for me to turn down NU w/$$$ for CLS at sticker. Until reading about scribelaw's disappointing non-offer, I was confident that I'd get something.tome wrote:It seems a little like the people with those sort of scores who did not get $$s are two-time LSAT takers. I have two LSAT scores--my first score is 13 points lower than my first--so we'll see what happens.

Re: Northwestern Law Class of 2013
My first thought was two LSAT scores. But I jumped 9 points, wrote an addendum about the first score and I thought NU only counted the higher one anyway.
I guess maybe I can hope this: They extended big $$$ offers to people with huge, HYS numbers and then the more moderate scholarshps to people they can win in peer battles with MVPD. And maybe they'll wait to see if they can steal away a few CCN types in the second round?
I'm sure that's sulf-fulfilling BS, and in truth, maybe they didn't like my two LSAT scores or I came off badly in my little scholarship essay. Dunno.
I'm more disappointing than I thought I'd be. Staring down at $210,000 in debt from NYU, I was just beginning to think that NU at half or two-thirds the price sounded pretty appealing.
