Okay, it's about time for me to join this thread. Barring acceptances at one of my hail mary schools, I'm planning on Michigan.

Just had a great conversation with a Michigan 1L. She called me out of the blue. I was not aware that they did this. I am more excited than ever about Michigan.

Just in case anyone in here is thinking about academia (schools are fond of hiring their own), you might find this fun to browse:

Does anyone have any information about room dimensions in the Lawyers Club? I want to figure out the difference between the economy and regular single before I send away my application.

Re: Michigan Class of 2013
I remember reading on Michigan's site that the regular singles are roughly 12'x14' and that the economy singles are described as "very small rooms".rolark wrote:Does anyone have any information about room dimensions in the Lawyers Club? Along those lines, does anyone have any pictures of the rooms, or been able to locate the working link to the virtual tour? All I have been able to find are these pictures; the space looks simply stunning:

yeah, the whole school has buildings like that.... its amazing.
Also, FWIW, I have been in my friends single Lawyers Club room and its definitely a comfortable sized room for one person. Bed, desk, lounge chair, fridge.... plenty of space without feeling cramped.

The thing that's killing me about the Lawyer's Club is the shared bathrooms and showers.

My college had co-ed shared bathrooms in the dorms. People look at me like I am nuts when I tell them that, but it wasn't bad at all after the first few weeks. We are amazingly adaptable creatures.Helmholtz wrote:The thing that's killing me about the Lawyer's Club is the shared bathrooms and showers.

means you don't have to clean your own bathroom, at least.

Re: Michigan Class of 2013
I freaked out my freshman year of UG because I got placed in a dorm with common bathrooms. I had never shared a bathroom in my entire life- even with my sibling. It turned out to be totally fine. It was actually nice to not have to clean or ever run out of toilet paper. I recommend buying a full length mirror and just blow drying/straightening/make up-ing in your room. After about 2 days you stop thinking about it- really! It's not ideal, but I'm more upset about having to revert to a Twin XLmaggiebre wrote:+1, I've never had to deal with that before...Helmholtz wrote:The thing that's killing me about the Lawyer's Club is the shared bathrooms and showers.

Not even with a roommate in an apartment?maggiebre wrote:+1, I've never had to deal with that before...Helmholtz wrote:The thing that's killing me about the Lawyer's Club is the shared bathrooms and showers.
I've only had my own bathroom once, for a semester when I was subletting a place that had some rooms empty. Growing up there were seven of us and one bathroom.

I'm more concerned with the lack of kitchen just because I like to cook/bake. Also trying to figure out winter break, since it'll be closed and I'd rather not spend multiple weeks with my folks. (This is a silly question but I assume we wouldn't have to move everything out just for three weeks or whatever, yes? I managed to avoid the dorms in undergrad and didn't pay attention to what my sister had to do.)

From my experience during UG in a dorm, you won't have to move out for winter break. However, they do close the residence and dining halls, so you can't stay for the break without prior consent, and it will be without food. For summer break you do have to move out.thalassocrat wrote: (This is a silly question but I assume we wouldn't have to move everything out just for three weeks or whatever, yes? Yeah, it was alright, but I was also 18 at the time. Being in my late 20's, there's no way I'd go back to sharing bathrooms with pseudo-strangers...at least not with other options. Also lame: no kitchen?

That's kind of what I figured. I hope I'll have a job over the summer anyway.beesknees wrote:From my experience during UG in a dorm, you won't have to move out for winter break.
