I got something about the Law Journal and an article reprint by David Levi via snail mail... Everyone else get that?

Just wanted to say congratulations to all of you. I went to Duke for my undergrad - probably not returning there for law school.

I have a friend who's a 1L who absolutely loves it (did his u'grad at Duke as well).

Durham's not a great town, but the surrounding Triangle area (Raleigh and Chapel Hill) is a great place to go out and explore.

Have fun - go to the basketball games, be loud.

Also, if you're looking for a place to live - check out Erwin Square. My friend the 1L lives there. It's not too far from the law school and has new and spacious units.

It's expensive, but those of you from larger cities in the Northeast might not be as put off by the rent. If you can afford it, definitely give it some consideration.

I just decided on Duke, so excited! A trip out there convinced me to attend (really it was the lemurs), and now I'm definitely looking forward to admitted students day. I hope that Friday night involves some serious beer tasting at Tyler's...

Psst, hey guys, over here. I was waitlisted at Duke but I am going to try everything in my power to get a spot for class of 2013. They are by far my number 1 choice. Didn't mean to interrupt your conversation, hence the small font.

Hope to meet y'all soon.

Does anyone have an idea when Duke will open up their $$ negotiation period? I know someone else said that Duke would wait until after sending all initial offers, but I haven't seen any target dates yet...

While I haven' gotten an email from a Duke Alum, I did get one from a current 3L instead. I think they couldn't find an Alum from Texas so they instead hooked me up with a student. Still nice and helpful to ask questions, but weak that I can't network with someone established.

i guess a current duke student would be best to answer this question, but do you absolutely need a car to get around? can you live within walking distance to the law school? how are the buses etc?

I think the answer is yes you probably want to have a car. However if you live close enough to walk and don't mind taking a bus to get food or entertainment (or being a barnacle to a friend who is going there) then I think it is doable to not have car. Not sure what the bus situation is like, but there is a car share program at Duke. $8 an hour 2 hour minimum ($60 a day a think), so that is always an option that is probably cheaper than owning a car.

Buy a car. I cannot emphasize this enough. Learn from my error.

I'm just glad they haven't opened it up yet, I am still waiting on Cornell before doing any negotiations. I doubt I will get any more regardless of what Cornell gives me.

I'm wondering if they'll even care about my Texas offer.

They should, you got a lot more money from them than what Duke gave you. $30k difference is enough to warrant more money.

Hmm. Would you be able to elaborate? I sold my car recently before moving across the country, and I really don't want to purchase one until post-1L summer.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
