Haven't heard about the law school yet but: The University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors voted unanimously this afternoon to enact the university’s highest tuition and fee increase in seven years (LinkRemoved).

The scary headline belies the fact that OOS students at the undergrad actually had a lower increase (6% vs 7.5%) than last year, and that in state students got only a 5 percent increase last year. My guess for the law school would be a $2500 increase over last year.

Aren't you headed to HLS?

I wouldn't post in a c/o 2013 thread after the deadline unless it was my future home.

No stipend (or title) for me, but I'll come out with 1/3rd the debt of HLS, so I'm excited And yes, I'm somewhat irrationally happy to know that I'll still be a 100% (Southern) public school product.

Are you going into PI? I would pick HLS over any T10 (Yale would be tough, but in the end I'd pick HLS). If $$$ were involved, only the Hamilton and UChi's full scholly could sway me.

Not sure what you consider big, but I'm coming with two Siberian Huskies, about 50 pounds a piece. It's going to be a big change from a house with a big yard to an apartment, but I'm trying to look on the bright side and think about how fit I will be after three years of running with them several miles per day.

New admissions numbers out. 9% increase in applications from last year. Brings the total pool of applicants to 8,562.

This year, they only accepted 890 applicants, or 10.4% of the total pool. This is compared to accepting 1158 applicants, or 14.7% of the total pool, last year.

I saw that too! Can't believe that it's only around 10%. They sure know what they are doing. My only criticism is that the article said "Law School," not "School of Law."

Also, wouldn't this mean that the yield would be somewhere around 40%?

Dang, I hope it doesn't get even worse next year.
Looks like UVA extending its ED deadline helped.

So long as the economy picks up, next year should be less competitive than this one.

I hope so. UVA is easily my top choice for law school.

I'm a HUGE fan of big dogs... I've got 2 Newfoundlands back home at my parents' and they're pretty much the loves of my life. I'd bring them to UVA with me if I could. I'm definitely planning on adopting one of my own during my 2nd year (ivy doesn't allow dogs) - what kind of big dog do you have?

What is this about???? He said he wanted to offer it up as an option if I was in a bind, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they maybe received a few more seat deposits than they were anticipating...?
