Presuming frantic packing. It will probably happen to me tomorrow night since I have to leave at 5 AM for the train!Unitas wrote:Why an all-nighter?starrydecisus wrote:about to pull the first all-nighter of my law school career!

Good luck everyone! The move for me was stressful but fulfilling. I took my things in a Ford Expedition. I ended up not fitting in the car with my things and having to take a very short notice Amtrak trip. Try to avoid morning traffic if you're coming in from the north, New York Ave from I-95 is awful.

Ahhh that looked like a good one but it was full by the time I tried to sign up. The only one left available was the Frederick Douglas house so I think I'm going to go to the faculty talks that are being held that morning instead.starrydecisus wrote:Domestic Violence tour!mws70ss wrote:First time poster here! Look at all the last minute packing, looks like we know who will be finishing assignments right at the deadline.

To those asking re: books for BEL. As far as I know, Peller only uses a course packet, which is available via the Course Materials link.
And he thinks he is God, for the one that asked above. Be prepared. I didn't have him last year, but he is Section 3. Basically.

So for the course materials, for example, for Legal Justice...all of the professors are listed under the course packet. Can we assume they are all using that packet? Just making sure I understand...I guess I should just wait until I get there...but I feel like it will be mass craziness once I arrive.
Also, if there is no purchase price next to it, does that mean you have to download it and print it?

Hey, everyone! I was browsing around the DC part of the Georgetown site and found out about DC Restaurant Week--where many fine dining restaurants throughout the DC area offer reduced fixed price menus. It turns out that it's this week!
It's still expensive for a student budget, but a great price for fine dining!
Here's the link:

(If anyone watches Top Chef or Top Chef Masters, Art's restaurant, Art and Soul, is participating)

I don't even have one bag packed. Luckily I don't leave 'til Friday but I still have to get a lot of things done (pedicure?) so I'm not ready to pack yet. I did put a couple of coats in a suitcase, so I guess that counts as starting.MSPeast wrote:<----------------D. Anyone want to go to some museums tomorrow? I'm joining another 1L off facebook on a tourist-a-thon tomorrow and figured I'd see if any of you guys wanted to come too.

Not only did it take over THREE WEEKS to be delivered, but one of my boxes of books had been ripped open. The USPS had resealed it...MISSING about half of the books in that box, but including a selection of books that were not mine!MSPeast wrote:Parcel post or Priority?iamtaw wrote:Shipped everything today! ended up costing $155 with usps.
The moral of this story is: Be aware of what you packed in each box, and don't be cheap when it comes to sending important items (with insurance!). Personally, I will never be using USPS at all after this, and I'm not surprised that they're struggling for business. I'll fork over the few extra bucks for UPS next time.
uh oh....
shipped 7 boxes with parcel post and my movie collection with media mail. i hope the boxes survive the trip. now im regretting not going with ups because i really wanted the saturday delivery... blerg

All of the LJ professors use the same materials. There is a joint lecture once a week, and then you have a seminar at some other time (which is the section 3 small class). Basically, for other course materials, if the prof's name is there, it's for that professor.nowinGA wrote:

I see a purchase price for both volumes (I and II; they are simply split for downloading convenience). $23 and $28 each (plus the shipping). I have friends who ordered bound copies of their course materials; I personally didn't. It's quite easy to download/print (though printing is 10 cents/page at school, and you don't get any benefit from going double-sided). I generally did two pages/sheet if the font was big enough, but it varies. Price ends up being more or less the same if not cheaper if you do it yourself; I printed, hole-punched, put in a binder. But everyone's different.

Does anyone have thoughts on looseleaf vs. hardback books? Its such a huge price difference I'm tempted to go with the looseleaf but I feel like there must be some drawback?
Also, if the loans get disbursed on the 20th does anyone know when we can expect to get them? Assuming we already set up the refund profile?
Really excited to start school!

I think there was someone a few pages ago talking about looseleaf books.wackadoodle wrote:Does anyone have thoughts on looseleaf vs. hardback books? Its such a huge price difference I'm tempted to go with the looseleaf but I feel like there must be some drawback?

Really excited to start school!
Summary:
PROS: Less expensive, less to carry to class
CONS: They said they didn't like the looseleaf because they kept on misplacing pages or getting them out of order.
Personally, I'm going with the regular books because I'm a klutz, and I will definitely lose pages or end up with such a clusterf#@# of papers at the end of the semester that they'll be useless to me.

In UG I had one textbook that was only available in looseleaf. I had problems with the binder not keeping its structural integrity regarding the metal rings, which made it very hard to keep the pages organized.Sequoia90 wrote:I think there was someone a few pages ago talking about looseleaf books.wackadoodle wrote:Does anyone have thoughts on looseleaf vs. hardback books?
