Hi, what section are you? Staying in the dorms?AloysiusBear wrote:Hi everyone! Long time lurker here -- wanted to say hello! Can't wait to meet everyone soon!
nowinGA, I am not sure. I remember reading what Heather said a while back too, but not sure if they send an e-mail or what. It might also be that the disbursement date on the loans at studentloans.gov just sends them to Georgetown then MyAccess will later on send them to us. Possible.

I am going to spend Wednesday getting all packed up. I am taking a roadtrip with all of my stuff and then my car is heading back.

ahhhh Unitas, I'm in the process of getting everything packed since I'm leaving Wednesday! I don't know how it's all fitting in the car. I'm doing the same--driving up but car is going back.
I can't wait to meet everything! I'm going to try to be at as many of the Gewirz/Orientation events as I can, so I hope to see you guys there!

Have we just been demoted to object status? Or have the museums been promoted to person status? Inquiring minds need to know.starrydecisus wrote:

On this topic - I just want to warn everybody about the USPS Media Mail. When I moved up here, I sent many of my books and dvds using that service (it's cheap!). Not only did it take over THREE WEEKS to be delivered, but one of my boxes of books had been ripped open. The USPS had resealed it...MISSING about half of the books in that box, but including a selection of books that were not mine!MSPeast wrote:Parcel post or Priority?iamtaw wrote:Shipped everything today! ended up costing $155 with usps.
The moral of this story is: Be aware of what you packed in each box, and don't be cheap when it comes to sending important items (with insurance!). Personally, I will never be using USPS at all after this, and I'm not surprised that they're struggling for business. I'll fork over the few extra bucks for UPS next time.

I shipped from a UPS store and it was all very smooth and WELL less than I was expecting. I just don't like post offices...or how the postal service does all the tracking/insurance/etc for stuff like this. I had 13 big boxes that went to Gewirz (gulp! they are going to hate me in the mailroom)...they are also are holding them at the UPS store to send them out to make sure they arrive exactly on Friday and not before. It was overall a good experience. Hopefully things will be as smooth on the other end!
Good luck, everyone!

Is it bad that I haven't started? I just don't know where to begin. Shoes? Clothes? Books? Accessories? Which handbags do I bring?starrydecisus wrote:Hahaha my brain is so tired from all this packing!!!volsi wrote:Have we just been demoted to object status? Meanwhile, I JUST got everything worked out with admissions. Apparently, they messed up really bad and were about to cross me off altogether. She called and asked if I was still planning on attending! She said they were going to charge me late fees for my tuition. Finally, they realized that they messed up and made a mistake, apparently I'm fine. This was like three weeks of absolute terror for me. Thanks admissions! Sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, went to the Giants-Jets preseason game last night. Love the new Meadowlands Stadium (still should be Giants stadium). Also, heckled the ref endlessly since we were right by the instant replay, and also got a wave and a smile from Perry Fewell, the defensive coordinator. I was so excited. SO HAPPY FOOTBALL SEASON IS STARTING!!!!!!!!

Hahaha they're going to hate me when I come to move in. You're supposed to get everything out of the car or something and into these carts? Something like that. We have a roof-top carrier and everything to get it. It's going to take a while to unload!nowinGA wrote:I shipped from a UPS store and it was all very smooth and WELL less than I was expecting. That's just media mail though. Priority mail has none of those problems. Your box and another box probably got ripped up en route, and hastily repacked. Sucks that it happened though. I do like USPS priority mail a lot.mb88 wrote:On this topic - I just want to warn everybody about the USPS Media Mail. I finally sent in my picture for GOCard and signed up for student advantage.
I didn't sign up for any tours or service projects. I'll use that time to find a job.

For non-media items, there is parcel post and priority mail. Priority mail is more expensive.volsi wrote:That's just media mail though. Priority mail has none of those problems. I did quotes for some of my items online with UPS, FedEx, and USPS. The cheapest prices for all three of them (ground services) were nearly the same. However, the comparable USPS price was for Parcel Post, and Priority Mail cost more money than both FedEx Ground and UPS Ground.
I think I'll use UPS since I think Parcel Post is slower, too. FedEx Office is a good deal further away from where I live than is the UPS Store and they cost about the same.
