They're worse than used car salesmen.Sauer Grapes wrote:With mattresses, you will find them near impossible to compare store to store as they change the "model" name even if they are the same mattress. It's a trick that seems unique to that industry.Paratiel wrote:Thank you, Sauer Grapes.

Yes, I HATE that about buying mattresses. The key is to compare the underlying specs and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate.Sauer Grapes wrote:With mattresses, you will find them near impossible to compare store to store as they change the "model" name even if they are the same mattress. I'm in the same boat with the 8/16 move in date. Hate the timing.

I'm sorry, I meant orientation. I have a very annoying tendency to keep typing one word while thinking I'm typing another. (This will get you in huge trouble on an exam, when you type "plaintiff" and your mind tells you that you're using a word that means "defendant".) Missing orientation is not a good idea, they reserve the right to do things like drop you from enrollment if you don't show up for it. They really, really want you there.bowie8285 wrote:huh? registration for what? who will drop you? this all sounds scary...please explain lolvanwinkle wrote: Do not miss registration. There's two days of nonstop stuff, meeting after meeting you have to go to, you're given a hell of a lot of information, and then Wednesday morning you go to class and better have done the reading because the cold calls start on the first day.Philo38 wrote:How bad is it going to be for those of us moving in the day before oreintation? Is finding a place in Ivy (as opoosed to, say, a place on Arlington Blvd.) socially advantageous for 1Ls? I'm shy as balls, does this make it more important that I live in Ivy since it's apparently the social nexus for law students?

Re: UVA Class of 2013
I don't think it matters. Arlington and Ivy are only about a 10-15 minute walk apart, so you can easily walk to any events there. Personally, in my section, eight of us live on Arlington, and most of our section parties have been on Arlington.MY FILES! wrote:Is finding a place in Ivy (as opoosed to, say, a place on Arlington Blvd.) socially advantageous for 1Ls? Just curious, has anyone had trouble getting in touch with their student host? I've contacted mine via email, but still haven't heard back. I'm starting to think I should make plans to stay at a hotel

This is incredibly random, but does anyone know what the difference between a "concentration" and a "curricular program" is? From the website it seems like both are simply a cluster of classes you can take in any given area, just wondering if there were any important practical distinctions (or if anyone actually took advantage of them).

Re: UVA Class of 2013
They both seem the same to me. There are a couple programs with their own separate applications (law and business, law and public service), but other than that, the "concentrations" and "curricular programs" appear to be only categorizations of the various courses, so that students who want to focus in a particular area can have a better idea of what they should take.leavingnc wrote:This is incredibly random, but does anyone know what the difference between a "concentration" and a "curricular program" is? For those of you who have looked at housing on the admitted students weekend, when did you visit houses/apartments? Thursday, or Saturday? Also, did you contact the landlord ahead of time or did you just stop by when you had a free minute? Plan to visit this weekend and I'm trying to figure out my schedule, thanks!

I'd like to know as well. I've been lurking on here for a while now, but I guess its finally time to make a post. I was going to look at some privately owned places on Saturday since it seems like all the nearby apt. complexes are already full.astro1819 wrote:For those of you who have looked at housing on the admitted students weekend, when did you visit houses/apartments?
