Lol I was going to say this, but couldn't find the right words for it. Has anyone posted the apartment list that Cornell gives out during the ASD so people who didn't go to the ASD can look over the options?como wrote:It's true -- not hard to make friends who are not in your section. If anything, you'll probably get sick of the Hughes crowd, since you are cooped up with them in one building all year.

I just pulled out the paper copy to make sure, but it's the same as the list of apartment complexes available on their Off-Campus Housing Office website.Jericwithers wrote:Has anyone posted the apartment list that Cornell gives out during the ASD so people who didn't go to the ASD can look over the options?

Any other useful housing information out there?vexion wrote:I just pulled out the paper copy to make sure, but it's the same as the list of apartment complexes available on their Off-Campus Housing Office website.Jericwithers wrote:Has anyone posted the apartment list that Cornell gives out during the ASD so people who didn't go to the ASD can look over the options?

Re: Cornell 2013
I spent all of Saturday after the ASD apartment-hunting. The Cornell OCHO is nice, the best feature being the searchable apartment listing database (https://larissa.campuslife.cornell.edu: ... age1-1.asp)
If you want to live close to the law school (i.e., walking distance) I think you're pretty much looking at the Collegetown and Lower Collegetown areas. West Campus maybe, but it's a hike. Housing prices are ludicrous in Collegetown for the size that Ithaca is. I went to a state university in a town of 250,000 and usually paid $350-400/mo. 1BRs where I'm from topped out around $800. In Ithaca, they start at $800 and go on up to $1,500 or so.
Like I mentioned in some post earlier in this thread, Novarr-Mackesey was almost universally recommended by the students we met on ASD (the same ones who acted as tour guides, ate lunch/dinner with us, and sat on the panel. I asked them about housing recommendations Friday.) We went and checked it out... it was alright. If you're willing to hunt, you could probably do better for the price.
Also, FWIW (I'm thinking you're female), I did drag boss around apartment-hunting for six hours or so, and the 2BR that he (I'm presuming) signed a lease on is an amazing place. Probably 3 minutes to the law school and $400 cheaper than comparable apartments in the area.

Ooh, sorry. Cause of your leaning towards Texas I'd associated you with someone I met at ASD. My mistake!Jericwithers wrote:You think I'm a women?/failsatlife

Given Cornell's stupid, no-good, rotten 52% rise in applications, I'm not holding my breath for a grant. Maybe if I could leverage a Duke acceptance against them I'd have something to work with.

I will let you know. Either way, I already closed my eyes, bit the bullet and sent in the deposit. So it's just a difference of how many years I'll be working to pay down the debt at this point.

ITE, be prepared to have your law school debt with you until you die. Tuition for your 1L year will be over 50K.vexion wrote:I will let you know. This really should have been Dartmouth Law. Funny, though.

Wow I have drank the koolaid and CornL is VERY helpful over the phone. All award letters should be wrapped up by the end of the day, and she said I can call back tomorrow and they will email me my award
Does CornL do any kind of matching? (Expecting not a lot of money already)

Re: Princeton Law 2013
Man, Cornell financial aid just sent me a photocopy of their middle finger in my financial aid package. I thought since my numbers are above median I would get something. Has Cornell been stingy this year. My only offer to leverage against is 10,000 a year at Fordha m plus the money I would gain by living at home. Bad leverage.
