I strongly suggest visiting first. The apartment situation there didn't seem so bad that you would have to resort to Hughes so quickly.

I strongly suggest visiting first. The apartment situation there didn't seem so bad that you would have to resort to Hughes so quickly.

I got a glimpse of Hughes when I made an unofficial visit recently and yes it's not glamorous at ALL, but I think it would be convenient. Also, I think it's a great way to make 1L friends who aren't in your section. Just my two cents!

I don't think making friends everyone in your overall class will be a problem at Cornell, and I am sure some current students would support that assertion. If you don't mind the feel of living in the 'basement' of the law school (thats how I felt when I toured) then it is probably a great way to make really close friends and have a larger part of your day free to study and get help from or help your suite-mates on the material. I am not trying to make it seem horrible or convince people not to go, but I strongly feel that touring the place before committing yourself is the prudent thing to do.

I sent them an email and received a response this morning. They told me they mailed me a letter yesterday. I'm incredibly nervous.... "letter" doesn't sound like "packet."

It's true -- not hard to make friends who are not in your section. If anything, you'll probably get sick of the Hughes crowd, since you are cooped up with them in one building all year.
