Re: GULC c/o 2013
I remember someone earlier in the thread stating that they were told by the Fin Aid office that they could purchase their laptop earlier than September 1st and still qualify for the laptop reimbursement loan. Anyone have any information on that? I'd much rather be prepared the 1st day of school if it's at all possible.

I have asked twice (via the generic email) and received two different answers. The first said to wait until August, the second said it must be purchased July or later.Torvon wrote:I remember someone earlier in the thread stating that they were told by the Fin Aid office that they could purchase their laptop earlier than September 1st and still qualify for the laptop reimbursement loan. Hmmm.... interesting. I guess it isn't too big of a deal for me. I'll be waiting for a few weeks anyway thanks to being poor.nowinGA wrote: I have asked twice (via the generic email) and received two different answers. Student account stuff has been filled in through myaccess and then student account services.
The health insurance stuff is also on there, but I haven't done it yet.

I haven't made any movements on my loans in quite some time, but I just got a letter in the mail saying my Grad PLUS loan got approved. So I assume I'm good to go!
(Well, I'm still waiting for my doctor to come back from vacation to sign my immunization form, but financially I'm all set.)
Edit: Wow, they are lenient! I sent them a prelim form saying how I couldn't get a signature for a few days, and they were like "Oh, you're good. No worries!" I must be great at rounding up evidence and making a persuasive case. This bodes well.

They really are great about things. I completely missed the whole need my parent's tax returns and W-9 thing (I am 31 and that whole part of things is still very odd to me)...and it was totally no problem (that I massively missed the deadline)...not a big deal at all. Let's hope the administration remains that way once we arrive! Whatever the case, I am comforted in having them help us along through all of this craziness...this is my 3rd trip to grad school...and by far the most complicated process!MSPeast wrote: Edit: Wow, they are lenient! Did anyone else who has a scholarship have it show up as a tiny bit less than half on Student Account Services? On the "estimated financial aid" page where it shows what all of your loans and scholarship are? Mine isn't a huge difference, but I am wondering why this is...

Hey all, back from DC. Put an application in for a cute studio. 2 blocks from a safeway. Traveling to DC and back in one day is not the best idea, also.
Hope everyone had a good holiday.

My scholarship is right on, but all of my loans are like $20 off or $15 off or the biggest is around $200. Are those all some kind of fees for taking out the loan? Also, anyone know anything about signing up a spouse for the health insurance and how I would go about requesting additional GradPLUS to cover that expense?nowinGA wrote:Did anyone else who has a scholarship have it show up as a tiny bit less than half on Student Account Services? If you signed up for work study it isn't on there, so that is 2350 or so. Student account services also lists health insurance that you may not want around 1745 or so and dorm charges.volsi wrote:Hey all, back from DC. nowinGA:
For those that aren't matching up go into myaccess, financial aid, award overview. The numbers should match up for scholarships and loans should be a little less then loan amount (at least mine are).
There is a health survey under student on myaccess. I believe this is how you add a spouse (also how you waive the insurance). I don't know about adding the amount to loans. If no one else knows you'll have to contact financial aid. Pretty sure you'll have to anyhow.Torvon wrote:

Anyone know: Does GULC ever hold over and still guarantee scholarships for people who defer a year?

I'm out of the country right now and stupidly forgot the myaccess password- was our default something simple like social or bday or something? Not being able to check has been killing me!

Emmy nod for Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife. It is cause she went to Georgetown I bet.
Hope all is well with everyone. Sorry Scribe, but I don't know the answer to your question.

Does anyone how to pronounce Gewirz? Might be helpful to know before move-in day.

The guy I toured with pronounced it Gee (like "geek") were (as in, "were you there last night") zzzz (as in the sound the letter makes in the word "zip.")softrevolution wrote:Does anyone how to pronounce Gewirz? Might be helpful to know before move-in day.

Well deserved nomination for Julianna!
Last night's epsidode, "Threesome," had some particularly great Emmy-worth scenes by her!

For some reason I thought Health Insurance would count as "Tuition," as I only requested gradPLUS loans to cover tuition. In retrospect, that was a silly thing to think.

I'm starting to get freaked out about work study. Did anyone else accept it?
Do you know when we find out what the work is?
