My guide said lots of students use mac and don't have any problems, besides the normal ones that lead one to use a mac

Re: IOWA 2013
Yay, mac users!
From what I've researched, the only issue I've seen has to do with taking exams using a computer--the software they require is for Windows, which means you'd need a program like Bootcamp or Parallels (or opt to take the exam on paper). Personally, I can't seem to motivate myself to want to put software on my mac that'd enable Windows to run. Maybe that's just me though.
And regarding Star Wars, I was making my legendary, world famous spaghetti sauce tonight and found myself using the Yoda voice as I taste tested it (and I totally blame this forum).

I've decided not to attend Iowa next year but I have to say that this thread makes me a bit sad. The Iowa Class of 2013 seems pretty cool. Good luck one and all!

FYI, I emailed the ticket office about football tickets. They said we'll be able to purchase tickets after we receive all of our materials at orientation. They'll have tickets saved for new students, but don't guarantee being able to fill all orders.

Can anyone give a rough estimate of what books will cost? I know that the website states $2300, but I am looking for a better breakdown of the numbers. Truth be told, I am trying to gauge if this total would cover the cost of my books and a laptop.

Re: IOWA 2013
Probably a dumb question, but does anyone know if we have any control over what professors we get for our first year courses? I'm assuming it just depends what section you are put in (and so no, you have zero control), but I ask because I am looking at some of the evaluations and it looks like there are definitely some professors you DON'T want (e.g. Matsumoto for property).
If you are interested in checking out the evaluations, here's the link...

Thanks for the link! It's pretty interesting, unfortunately I'm 95% sure that we have no say in our first year teachers or classes. If anything, this'll help me brace myself in case I get saddled with a bad professor.

So uh, does Iowa Law have a softball league? I haven't heard of any, and it would be pretty sweet to get something going, even if its only a couple games.

I'd be down for softball. Or to start a league if there isn't one yet. I'm guessing there is, though.

Not only do we not have a choice of professors, we also can't select the times of the classes ->

But we don't have classes before 9, they decided that was too hard on 1Ls recently, at least my guide was complaining about how she had to take 8 o'clock classes but I wouldn't.dt22 wrote:traehekat wrote:Probably a dumb question, but does anyone know if we have any control over what professors we get for our first year courses? That'll be a huge relief. I don't know if I can save up enough for deposits, a U-Haul, and a new laptop between now and August.dt22 wrote:don't know, but you can get extra funding for a laptop, from what ive heard. +1. Grad school intramural leagues work well (not sure how Iowa does things, though).sebastian0622 wrote:I'd be down for softball. Or to start a league if there isn't one yet. I'm guessing there is, though.

After a cursory search, I found one of the student ambassadors lists intramural softball as one of their law school activities. Leads me to assume that there is a league.Yacht_Party wrote:+1.
