So, does anyone know how GPA/rank works at Duke? They don't release class rank, but does that mean they don't do rank it but only give it to the firms for OCI? Is there a GPA cutoff at some firms? I'm just wondering how will I know that everyone is better than me?

Yeah, I'm pretty sold. I'm waiting to see what I may get from Mich/Virginia, and I'm leaving my Harvard application open just to see what happens. I'm pretty positive I'll be at Duke in August.DallasCowboy wrote:So now that we all have 60k...Are you sold yet alt?
Also all my travel plans for the ASW are set, I'll be the one in the Cooley Law t-shirt.

Does anyone know how much basketball tickets are for the law students? I'd like to be able to go so long as they're not prohibitively expensive, because I need to save most of my loan money for chipotle and alcohol

Re: Duke Class of 2013
I'm not sure, but man I didn't realize everybody literally CAMPS outside the stadium before the games. There are lots of tents out.
I just visited Pinnacle, and I think it is where I'm going to live. No way am I going to live east of campus. It's awesome how the staff seems to know all of the students by name. There are "old" apartments and "renovated" apartments for $20/mo more, with upgraded cabinets, countertops, and fridges. I will be opting for the original model. Word on the street here is that ~50% of 1Ls have jobs lined up so far.
Checking out Chapel Hill tonight.

Re: Duke Class of 2013
I thought graduate students only have to line up once for tickets at the start of the season. I think everyone else is an UG. What's wrong with east campus? Pinnacle looks like a nice place to stay from what I've seen too. Did you check out any 1 bedroom units, or just 2 bed?DallasCowboy wrote:I'm not sure, but man I didn't realize everybody literally CAMPS outside the stadium before the games. Re: Duke Class of 2013
There is nothing wrong with any of the campus, I just think the city is a little sketchier than anywhere I've lived. Plus, I love having a tennis court, trees, and a full racquetball court. There are definitely a ton of law students at Pinnacle, although it's more of a smile and wink kind of thing from the management, who cite fair housing laws when you ask demographics.

Dang, I didn't even know that.DallasCowboy wrote:Word on the street here is that ~50% of 1Ls have jobs lined up so far.
You are correct. If you end up attending Duke, then "Campout" will be quite the memorable experience for you.Jericwithers wrote:I thought graduate students only have to line up once for tickets at the start of the season. I think everyone else is an UG.
Edit: If you don't end up with season tickets you can just line up a little bit before the game.

Re: Duke Class of 2013
You have a job lined up Prez? Also, when you campout is it first come first serve for tickets or do you camp for some kind of raffle? It would be hard to root against Texas in any sport, but we are sucking so bad in basketball Duke vs Texas shouldn't even come up lol.prezidentv8 wrote:Dang, I didn't even know that.DallasCowboy wrote:Word on the street here is that ~50% of 1Ls have jobs lined up so far.

Yeah I'll be workin this summer haha....
as for Campout, you basically camp out (broadly defined, includes use of U-Haul trucks and RVs) in a parking lot for a weekend (basically a huge party) with people from all the grad programs in order to enter a raffle for season tickets. Most people form groups to increase their odds of getting some tickets.

Yeah, and I expect that even though you're just getting your scholarship paperwork in right now you'll get your offer pretty soon. My form was received on 1/21 and they mailed out my offer on Tuesday of this week, so it seems as if they're pretty far along in getting offers out to people.thickfreakness wrote:someones alt wrote:Congrats numbers twin

Seems we all are getting $60k. I feel bad since I am the least deserving of that ammount out of us all lol. Here's hoping you can get a little bit more thick!

60 would be great, anymore would be even better, obviously. I've got no complaints if I get 60, it just might make my school choice tougher.

What choice do you see yourself having to make? I just sent in a LOCI and stuff to Michign, so if I finally get accepted nd $45k there then it would be a verrrryyy hard choice between the two (no matter how much I am dedicated to Duke right now).thickfreakness wrote:Jericwithers wrote:Seems we all are getting $60k. Just booked my ASD flight and hotel also! $415 plus $100 for a rental car, and I decided to stay at the Comfort Inn as advised by DallasTexas. So excited!

Haven't heard from UVA yet, and I'm thinking they might slowplay me into early March. Also, I'm anticipating a good offer from Vanderbilt. I'm just ready to see how the rest of my cycle plays out.Jericwithers wrote:What choice do you see yourself having to make? Same here, but forget about UVA! Those people wouldn't even accept me

Hey everyone, I guess I'm late getting up on this site. I got my acceptance back in October, but I'm still waiting on scholarship notification before I write out any deposit checks. I'm going to try and go out for ASW, does anyone think I'll need a car if I get a hotel with airport and campus shuttles?

Re: Duke Class of 2013
I'm not sure how neccesary a car is and it probably depends on what you plan on doing/seeing while there. I am renting a car, but that is because I want to save money on a hotel and also go see some of the apartments in the area. It really isn't an area you can walk from place to place though.ranovr32 wrote:unequivocally YESBbop wrote:Hey everyone, I guess I'm late getting up on this site. Congrats. UT or Duke is a hard choice, but there are a lot of Texans in this thread who are choosing Duke. It seems to be the same cost (at least for me) at both schools and Duke seems to have the better career prospects. The research triangle is a really beautiful area, and depending on what you look for in a city you probably wouldn't mind living there either.louboutin wrote:$67,500 to Duke. Pretty excited.
