Rumor has it exactly 17% of them pre-gamed for the Bar Exam with Four Lokos. Otherwise we totally would have been at 100%. However the one person who pre-gamed with Eight Lokos apparently passed. Good for her.DavidB wrote:What happened to the SMU class of 2010?

From just a cursory check of other years, it appears SMU hasn't fallen below the state-wide average since Feb 2001.

I'm just concerned that having a class perform so poorly on the Bar will affect SMU's overall reputation. The employment market is bad enough without receiving a downgrade in whatever status we might have.
I realize one poor performance does not make a trend, but it certainly isn't going to help.

There are still thousands of alums working across the city and state. I don't think it will matter at all.DavidB wrote:Is that written in some sort of code?fathergoose wrote:Rumor has it exactly 17% of them pre-gamed for the Bar Exam with Four Lokos. It's remarkable how little bar passage rate matters to you 1L year. The world could be (and very well may be) crumbling around me, but unless it somehow effects my memo or outlining, I couldn't care less.DavidB wrote:Is that written in some sort of code?fathergoose wrote:Rumor has it exactly 17% of them pre-gamed for the Bar Exam with Four Lokos. Passing along some sad news, I just learned that Greg Coleman was killed in a plane crash on November 23rd. Mr. Coleman was one of the attorneys from the above event.DavidB wrote:Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Anybody know anything other than hearsay about when we can reasonably expect to hear back about grades? And what can we do job hunt wise without grades? Do we just send letters to places telling them to expect to hear from us when we get grades?

End of January.
I just sent cover letters that said grades would be provided as soon as they were available. Some of the opportunities said explicitly that grades are requires, so I haven't done those yet.

Has anyone received their loan disbursement for the spring semester? My scheduled disbursement date on Access is 1/3, but the funds haven't hit my account.

I didn't get mine until a day or two after the scheduled disbursement date last semester. I assumed they go by last name and mine is at the end.

If we set up direct deposit in the fall, do we need to do anything for the spring? I totally forgot what I did back in August to receive them. Thanks.

Based on the timing of last semester, I'm not expecting the direct deposit until next week. They just applied the funds to my student account today, and it took several more days until the direct deposit in the fall. I just pretend that I won't be getting the money (or grades) ever, so when it comes it's a pleasant surprise.Thirteen wrote:Has anyone received their loan disbursement for the spring semester? I just checked, and they also applied the funds to my account today. Hopefully we'll get them by this weekend, but it's a crapshoot when dealing with SMU's financial aid office.chrisokc wrote:Based on the timing of last semester, I'm not expecting the direct deposit until next week. As ready as I'll ever be. I imagine that you've spent most of the break poring over Crespi's 2-207 handouts.Thirteen wrote:I just checked, and they also applied the funds to my account today. Hey, legal work-type places...when you require an email application for an internship, some sort of acknowledgment of the email would be pretty nice.

Anyone get any money yet? I thought last semester was bad, but they've managed to step it down a notch.

I got an email on Wednesday that said the funds had been deposited in my SMU account, but still had to be disbursed.
My wife is now enrolled in SMU graduate school, and she already hates the financial aid office. Hasn't even started classes yet.

One guy in our section said that it hit his bank account this morning. I still show the negative account balance on Access SMU, so I'm also still playing the waiting game.kalvano wrote:chrisokc wrote:Anyone get any money yet? I don't know what it more irritating, the financial aid office, or the fact that professors aren't even required to have grades handed in until January 26th.

Re: SMU Class of 2013/2014
My humble prediction is that we won't know any grades until February. What is most irritating is that Crespi's test was the longest and the one for which I wrote the most characters, and he had them all graded before Christmas. Plus, his exam was given next-to-last.kalvano wrote:I don't know what it more irritating, the financial aid office, or the fact that professors aren't even required to have grades handed in until January 26th.
