Ah, thanks for the thought, but I lied (apparently.) They tell me we're pretty much going to be confined to Catalina. But I wanted to see Hollywooood! /tantrum

I can fit three others in my car and have a secret love of grocery stores. I think you all will find plenty of us around. Also, I've heard the car share program in Ithaca is pretty good.

Methinks there won't be too many of us until after the 15th. Hughes people aren't moving in till... what, the 21st? You're gonna have to lean on the 2Ls.

I'm here now. It is actually sort of nice having some time to explore and get to know the town before everyone gets here. In my case, is has also let me keep my "Oh My god what have I done" freak out private.

On another note, I'm going home next week for the month and then returning in August. A friend who lived here, convinced me to book the cheaper Rochester flight since she could give me a ride and then promptly bailed. What's the best way to get to and from Rochester airport from here? I have a car, but would rather not pay for long term parking. The greyhound bus?

Hmm. If you couldn't catch a ride with someone else, the greyhound is probably your best bet. Looks like a ticket is only $44 round trip, compared with the prospect of spending like $30 on gas plus $40-50 for parking at the airport, depending on how long the car is there (looks like the long-term is $55 max.)

That bus fare seems pretty reasonable, during my UG I had to pay a lot more to get a RT to the Chicago airports and it was basically the same distance as Ithaca-Rochester

I'm in Ithaca as well. As my first move after I left college, it feels kind of weird; though I'd been here enough previously that I'm already pretty familiar with it.

JKS, do also bear in mind that you'll need a cab from the rochester bus station to the airport. It's 5 miles if the cabbie is being honest, 8 if he's not (I went to school there). There's an economy lot which is $5.50 a day, and the shuttle picks you up at your car. Bus still sounds cheaper. Too bad you're just flying in and out; there are in fact a few neat things to do in the ROC.

Thanks, I'm still trying to figure out what to do. My husband and I are flying out together but I am returning alone. So it is bus fare one way plus round trip ($66) plus the cab. Any chance there is somewhere besides long term airport parking to leave a car for three weeks? Ha, this is what I get for trying to save $150 bucks by not flying out of Ithaca.

NeXP, are you in town now? Let's grab coffee or a drink! Anyone else around? I saw a woman with a baby and a Cornell Law bag in Starbucks this morning but I got too shy to do the whole "Are you in the law school? Me too!!" thing.

Oh and final question. A friend sent me a few Cornell Law stickers (the kind that go in the car's back window). Hub's says those are for douches. I say nothing wrong with a little school pride. Thoughts?

I see nothing wrong with it. Come winter time, I will be wearing my Cornell Law School hoodie to class to keep warm. If anyone thinks I am a douche for that, then f*** them

Ha! He was kidding about the "douche" part (I think). I'm already stocked up on Cornell apparel, just wanted to know if the sticker was obnoxious. :D

Obviously it's not obnoxious to Cornell people. It would be better to ask friends who wont be attending.

Everyone knows that Cornell people's opinions are all that matter.

Here's my one tentative suggestion for relatively cheap parking in Rochester: There's a city garage behind the Eastman School downtown which is free after 5:30 PM and on weekends. During those periods, the gates are up, and you can exit for free no matter when you entered. I have no idea if they'd bother a car which was left for 3 weeks. I found this number for the garage: (585) 325-7860. Otherwise, there are few areas downtown I'd leave a car that aren't in that area (which is all metered). There are some (relatively) safe residential neighborhoods in that area, but that's not a route I'd be inclined to take. Sorry I don't have a silver bullet!

I am in town now, and would love to meet up, though I'm planning to leave for Long Island shortly, as I'd like to avoid the lovely NY rush hour traffic.

Yes, they are for douches. Law students are douches. Embrace it. Would it be less douchey to just put up a Cornell University sticker? I have one for my undergrad, but I put it in the side cargo area window in my SUV. I think that tamps down the douche a bit.

It's iffy. I sort of want a cornell law sweatshirt, but i'm sort of afraid wearing it outside of school would smack of pretentiousness. I don't think it's actually pretentious but I think a lot of people are going to see it that way.

EDIT: Oh I saw the best potential photo for law ITE the other day. It was a terribly beat up, paint peeling, dents all over, 1993 Honda with a Harvard Law sticker on the back window. All I could think was god help us all.

I had that. But after my apartment hunting trip in June... Not fun. It's definitely alleviated a lot in the past month. Hopefully I won't have a resurgence after I officially move in on August 1!

ftr, my opinion is Cornell Law apparel is fine, for at least the three years your on campus and then, like, around your apt.

Bumper stickers belong in landfills, not on cars.

This reminds me of a story from a buddy of mine who lives in DC. He said he saw an Aston Martin with a "McCain" bumper sticker. He said it was like watching a model use a port-a-potty.
