So I just checked my status checker and it said an student scholars email had been sent to me. I didn't receive one though and I think my spam filter ate it, did anybody else get this? If so, what did it say?

Huh...mine says that too, but I didn't recieve an email either. If its anything like the previous emails, it probably just showcases some particular aspect that they think sets them apart.

Well, it's relatively easy to find me. If someone's screenname is "aznflyingpanda", I think it would be a bit more difficult to pinpoint them on the group.

Thanks guys, just curious to hear some opinions.

Favorite part: Relaxed cordial atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly toward one another, and many of us are quite helpful. It goes way against the stereotype of the hypercompetitive law school. (Folks are still competitive, don't get me wrong, they just aren't doing it in ways that take it out on each other!)

Least favorite part: This is "the South" and we've still managed to get 60 inches of snow this winter. Fuck this, if I wanted this I could've gone to Cornell. Plus the fact that it's such a rural and spread out environment means no subway system like you'd have in NYC or Philly or Chicago, where even though it's snowing and not safe to drive you still have a way to go get around.

In all seriousness, I miss some of the perks of living in a more urban environment in general.

After the first semester: So glad I came here. I'm interested in public interest work and the Public Service Center (which is career services for PI folks) has been amazing so far. The school is very good at leveraging its alumni connections to open doors for current students. Plus I've really loved most of my professors and classes.

Anything different than expected? I guess the stress. I don't mean that I wasn't expecting stress, just that I was expecting a different kind. I worked a highly stressful job before I came here so I thought I was used to stress, but I wasn't used to the kind of stress that a curved grading environment puts on you. By the time finals start you'll be going crazy... But then it'll be over and you'll be glad you made it through that first semester.

Oh, and waiting so goddamn long for grades to come out, what's up with that?! But like the stress thing that's going to be pretty universal at most law schools, profs apparently take their time grading and getting grades back to you. Whee.

That's what I got so far. I'm looking forward to all the snow melting off because I love it here when I'm not buried in white death. They do a good job keeping the sidewalks clear, but then as the snow piled up on either side melts into water, it runs onto the sidewalks and then refreezes at night in spots, creating lovely ice patches for you to go kill yourself on... Whee.

Did I mention I hate the snow?

oh yes, also of note on my visit - on Emmett road I think it was, outside a shopping strip with a Harris Teeter, there is a mountain of snow thats been plowed and it is honest to god 20+ ft. i wish Miami or hawaii had a top 10 law school

Supposedly one of my classmates climbed that mountain and planted an American flag on the top. I have yet to go see if this is true or not.
